Yes, Mr. Hale, this is how a “man” behaves when chasing farm-raised birds at feeding troughs in an SUV while intoxicated:

“Secret Service agents guarding Vice President Dick Cheney when he shot Texas lawyer Harry Whittington on a hunting outing two weeks ago say Cheney was “clearly inebriated” at the time of the shooting.

“Agents observed several members of the hunting party, including the Vice President, consuming alcohol before and during the hunting expedition, the report notes, and Cheney exhibited “visible signs” of impairment, including slurred speech and erratic actions.”

Quite a collection of cheap shots by the apparently uninformed.  Bird hunting is an endeavor of skill with more than a bit of inherent risk, as is most hunting pursuit.  Cheney took the responsiblility like a man.  A refreshing contrast to Chappaquiddick, the Rose law firm records and the Blue dress et al.

Anybody notice how gas prices went down after the shooting?  Could the reductions have been a ploy to reduce anxiety over high gasoline prices?  The anger created by constantly increasing prices could transfer to Cheney (and his oilfriends) resulting in demands for prosecution.  We have been appeased at the pump so that demands for prosecution are unlikely.

We progressives have been a bit to hard on the administration.  I think we should take up a collection and send Bush, Cheney and former VP Dan Quayle hunting.  We should tell ‘ol dead-eye Dick that this time he has to be more careful.  “Don’t shoot until you see a Quayle standing next to the Bush!”

I just love how good old Dick doesn’t have to speak to local police after shooting someone in the face. Why should he - the Secret Service “informed” police that it was an accident. Oh wait, maybe good old Dick didn’t want the police to find out he was intoxicated. I guess good old Dick is above the LAW!

Lord knows that I have too many problems with Dick Cheney to count—starting with his being the brains behind the abysmal and failed presidency of George Bush, but as one who first went quail hunting with uncles and father in 1954 at age 14, let me point out a few statement and assumption errors related to folks’ comments re Chency idiotically shooting a hunting companion.  It’s reported that Cheney was using a .28-guage shotgun—which is the next-to-smallest common guage use for hunting, bigger than a .410, smaller than a .20-guage.  It likely has a modified or improved-cylinder choke, which means that the muzzle is slightly tapered to hold a shot pattern fairly tight at a fair distance, necessary for shooting quail or doves.  The shot size was probably “bird shot” or #8, which is fairly small.  A whole lot of #8 shot will remain in a fairly tight pattern out only 90 feet (30 yards).  Depending upon the powder load (not all shot shells have the same—some more powerful, some less powerful), it is not inconceivable that the poor lawyer caught a lot of shot, some of could certainly pass through clothing and into the chest cavity at only 90 feet.  As for Cheney’s aim being low enough to shoot a fellow hunter, quail usually fly no more than 12-20 feet straight away—or to the side—or back past, depending upon how they hold as a hunter passes or approaches or as a dog flushes them.  Sometimes they fly even lower.  So, everything that has been reported is absolutely conceivable.  That’s including Cheney being an incredibly stupid, careless, thoughtless sumbitch in swinging around for a low-trajectory shot when there were other people in the party—one of whose location he was unaware.  As I learned at age 14 and have practiced since, in a shooting party, you damned well make sure you know where everyone is before you shoot.  But then, Cheney seems to make a habit of shooting carelessly—particularly with his mouth and his ethics—at the truth and everything else where the country’s business is concerned.

This cartoon is a slap in the face for the “shootallofyourfriends” religion. Our beloved Cheney shouldn’t be depicted in such a disrespectful manner.
I’m calling for a jihad and general rioting.

How can a 28 guage shotgun focus so many pellets at a distance of 30 YARDS?  That’s a long toss for a quarterback.  This White-House-supplied information seems, as usual, deceptive.  Mr. Whittington’s wounds, many pellets piercing his face, neck, and chest, indicate a shot at much closer range, especially in that many of them pierced hunting clothing and skin to entered his muscles and organs.

You gotta ask the questions.

One more: don’t birds flush upwards?  Shouldn’t Cheney have been aiming skyward?

Good one!
It is humourous to reflect on the unmitigated arrogance of one of the heads of the US Cabal.
It is also telling on how long it took to reveal an accident that must have needed all hands to advise what spin would be used. It appears that capitulation was chosen, and out of character Cheney humbly takes all blame, brilliantly defusing the already spent shell.

I WONDER HOW THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN SPUN IF “BIG DICK” HAD
GONE HUNTING WITH DAN QUAIL? WHY DID IT TAKE UNTIL TODAY FOR THE SPINELESS WEASEL TO DEIGN TO SPEAK WITH THE PRESS?
CAN THESE BOZOS NOT FACE UP TO ANYTHING THEY PERCEIVE AS
BEYOND THEIR CONTROL? WHEN THINGS GO WRONG THOSE WHO CAN ADMIT NO MISTAKES ON ANY LEVEL FIRST DUMMY-UP; THEN HIDE BEHIND THE OLE SPIN DOCTORS; AND THEN AND ONLY THEN,
DO THEY SLITHER OUT FROM THEIR UNDISCLOSED LOCATIONS TO
ANSWER THE TIMID, TEPID QUESTIONS FROM MEMBERS OF THE CAREFULLY CHOSEN PRESS. FOX NEWS HAS ALWAYS HELD THIS
ADMINISTRATION’S FEET TO THE FIRE! WHAT A PATHETIC JOKE!!!

At 30 yds., a person would have a deep, good sized hole blown in him. The reporting people downplayed this to the point where they said he was knocked silly. You don’t stay in intensive care for two days for having been splattered with pellets. Then get rushed back to surgery because one pellet happened to find its way to the heart with a prognosis of another week in intensive care. I would suggest that his wounds were more serious and just about the time he was to be placed in a regular bed (cough) he was returned for follow-up surgery. It would be nice if someone in this administration knew how to tell the truth. This is endemic. Remember they announced yesterday that they spent $1.6 billion with add agencies to push their agenda.

Cheney does not apologize for collateral damage, civilians who get in the way.

Perhaps Cheney mistook Whittington for one of the twin towers.

VP Cheney waited to report this tragic event (isn’t this only the second time in US History that a VP has shot someone? VP Burr was the first, he shot Alex Hamilton?) until his blood alcohol level dropped to zero. This is a much bigger story than the corporate media is spinning it. Sad how far down things have gone. The Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves.

May we please get of this non-story and get on to more important subjects. As for Bwana Hunter Cheney, I can envision this portly VP reading in his study and mounted on the wall in the background, a stuffed quail bearing a sprig of laurel in its beak. If it weren’t for the injured man, this whole episode is laughable. Grown men armed to the hilt and ready to blow some feathery fluffballs into oblivion. Pity the poor quail.
