The book was developed from an article in AARP magazine, for which Golson was awarded the Lowell Thomas Travel Writing Award in 2004.

He has written numerous articles for The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Salon.com, Folio, Playboy, TV Guide, Ski, Diversion, and AARP.

Golson supervised the Playboy Interviews for 14 years and is the author of The Playboy Interviews I and II anthologies, published by Putnam.
