The attorney general of the Syrian province Hama resigned in a video posted online by activists Thursday in protest of President Bashar al-Assad’s violent response to peaceful protesters.
In his video statement, Adnan Muhammad al-Bakkour cited specific reasons for his resignation, including that 72 prisoners were killed in Hama’s central prison July 31, and that more than 400 bodies were buried in mass graves in public parks by Assad forces and loyalists.
“I, the attorney general of Hama, Adnan Muhammad al-Bakkour, announce my resignation from my position in the state that is shadowed by Assad and his gangs,” he began.
