Dr. Laura Schlessinger is still sorry about that whole “n-word” incident from earlier this month. So sorry, in fact, that she went on “Larry King Live” Tuesday night to talk about it—and to announce, “I’ve made the decision not to do radio anymore.”
But she’s not leaving the stage altogether. No, Schlessinger says she’ll be exploring her online and print options and will be freer, and somehow able to “regain” her “First Amendment rights,” without her radio gig—although her host quickly notes that radio is the medium through which she attained her fame. Awkward!
Even better, though, is King’s helpful breakdown of who can, and can’t, employ racial slurs to make their point: “Do you realize that it’s OK if blacks wanna kid blacks or make fun of themselves, but it’s not OK for this lady ... to have a white person use the word?” He even appears to slow down his speech to make sure she gets it. —KA
