Meet Phillip Steel, the Drone Hunter
Posted on Nov 14, 2013
In his “Difference Makers” segment, Stephen Colbert introduces us to the man who will keep America safe from surveillance drones—or at the very least, Deer Trail, Colo. As Colbert puts it, Steel’s a man famous for “shooting for the stars,” a phrase that takes on new meaning as the Centennial State vigilante cocks his shotgun and aims at it at the white spying specks in the sky.
Deer Trail, known for hosting the world’s first rodeo and pretty much nothing else, recently voted on an ordinance drafted by Steel that would allow the town to issue drone hunting licenses so residents can “shoot down some drones.” All in the name of protecting Deer Trail’s sacred airspace and, of course, “making some money for the town,” according to Mayor Frank Fields.
Talk about life, liberty and the pursuit of ... well, something. Watch as the segment takes a hilarious, if somewhat unexpected, twist relating to every conservative’s favorite topics and as our hero finds a way to make a difference despite adversity.
