The Obama administration said it had confirmed that Syria used chemical weapons and announced that the U.S. would send arms to rebel fighters there. The move went along with former President Clinton’s recent warnings that Obama risked looking like “a total fool” if he behaved too cautiously in the region. The administration’s plan drew much criticism, including from James Traub of Foreign Policy magazine.
