L.A. City Council Votes Against Corporate Personhood

This week, Los Angeles became the first major city in the United States to call for “a constitutional amendment to clearly establish that human beings—only human beings—are entitled to constitutional rights,” Move To Amend LA founder Mary Beth Fielder announced after a symbolic vote by the L.A. City Council.

The initiative sets a precedent for overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that allows money and politics to commingle in disastrous ways. Here’s Fielder, flanked by council members, commemorating the vote on Tuesday.  —KA
