Stephen Colbert, in his endlessly entertaining mission to interview every member of Congress, sat down with D.C. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton on Thursday. While she might not have gotten the joke, the congresswoman demonstrated great patience as she and Colbert argued over whether Washington, D.C., is part of the United States. The pair went on to debate the pronunciation and origin of his name, whether he looked gay and, best of all, whether Rep. Norton, who helped write sexual harassment guidelines, was undressing Colbert with her eyes.
Watch it:
Partial transcript:
Colbert: You helped write the federal sexual harassment guidelines during the Carter administration, correct?
Norton: Indeed.
Colbert: Then why are you undressing me with your eyes, Congresswoman?
Norton: You flatter yourself, sir!
Colbert: It looked like you just raped me with your eyes just then.
Norton: What makes you think that I find you attractive at all?
Colbert: I dont know if youre finding me attractive.
Norton: I didnt find you gay.
Colbert: Well whats the other option?
Norton: The other option is to, to look at you and see a plain vanilla man whos asking me questions.
Colbert: I thought I was French vanilla, Congresswoman.
