American exceptionalism will kill us!  Our problem is persistent national self-satisfaction, conceit. “American values.”  Baloney!  Such nonsense absolutely forestalls self-improvement, no matter what great aims are stated, what enormous problems emerge.  Nothing will ever be done with this ego-centered nonsense kept in front of everyone’s mind.

Because Obama has to pander to it, it decreases his ability to act creatively and to admit mistakes. To the degree that we as individuals pander to it, it undermines our ability to help solve national   problems.

It undermines the ability to make accurate judgments.
