I enjoyed very much the reaction of the audience on the words: “I’m for gay-marriage” Now I really understand what kind of people were sitting there.

I agree with Shano that Christianity and Jesus teach love, tolerance, fairness and humility. We have no right to judge others or try to force them to live a certain way. Check out my blog post with Biblical citations:
http://soothsayer-says.blogspot.com
And like slippery eel, I think we need to rethink marriage/union. In Turkey, all marriage is civil but people can ask an Imam or other clergy to bless their union separately. Here’s a link to my post on that:

I love this comic. She hits your funny bone by telling the truth.
As for the So Called Christians on this site:
dont cherry pick the Bible if you think it is the holy Word Of God. Go ahead and stone women in your church who may commit adultery and the children who disobey their parents, as the Old Testament requires. Own some slaves, dont eat shellfish, pork, or wear fabrics that may be a mixture of fibers. Put up some burnt offerings on Holy Days.
Oh, you say Jesus brought an end to all that? Then your stance on homsexuality is wrong too.
Guess what? The only thing you have left is this:
love God,
do unto others as you would have them do unto you,
judge not, lest you be judged.
So, STFU, and live your life as Jesus would. Stop judging people and live your own life without trying to force people back into the bondage laws of the Old Testament.

Heh. It’s all very interesting, I think. Morality itself comes from God, but it is unfortunate that there are dumb people in the world who will try to promote a false morality in the name of God. Hard to figure out where the real God is, that’s the problem. If we ever found it, we’d know what to do. As it stands, the world is in a state of confusion, and everybody says their God is right.
Same-sex marriage as an issue is ridiculous. There’s no reason to be against it, because no matter what you do, gay people will continue to be gay whether they get married or not. Stopping same-sex marriage will not stop homosexuality. If you want to be against homosexual acts, fine. I personally find them to be morally wrong, because of my Christian beliefs. However, I can’t see why I would be against same-sex marriage, because it wouldn’t solve or change anything.
As for the “When did Jesus say anything against homosexuality/same-sex marriage?” comment, I’ll tell you: it’s not recorded in our Bible that he did. He didn’t need to, because it was already written in the Old Testament, and in the Law of Moses. Paul later reiterated it.

Morality comes from a god?
We are free to be what the moral majority thinks we should be?
The problem with this country is not immorality, but stupidity.
The god = morals thing is so easily refuted by one simple fact: When this country had slavery, slavery proponents said that the right to enslave came from God. I could, of course, add hundreds of cases where God-given authority turns out to be nothing more than an evil act justified by the evil-doers as God-given.
So too easily refuted is the “moral imperative is made by the majority” argument. This is simply the other side of the coin of power—those who rule were those who set the morals for those they ruled. Of course, up until only about two centuries ago those who ruled where never the majority but we the theocratic class.
Remember when Kings ruled as having derived their power by God?
Christians, Conservatives, Neo-Cons… all are 100% morally bankrupt. They lack any understanding of basic logic, act utterly without reason, and are the root cause of the deaths of millions of people. Yes I said millions. Economic sanctions, embargos, backward trade laws, worker exploitation, corporatization of our “democracy” and their “wars” on everything from drugs to terror, are directly responsible for the current state of Western Civilization.
Western Civilization is under attack, but not because of our lack of morals, or because of our freedom. No. We are under attack precisely because so many Americans think that they have a God-given right to force other people to live under our rule.
That is why much of the rest of the world despises America. Not because of gay marriage.

No morality comes from god. Morality changes with time, progress. Does your eternal god change? Morality, like your dogma, comes from the minds of human beings. Your morality is old, broken, backwards. Your morality has got to go, and it is. The fact is: you’ve already lost. The fact is: when we got you to speak out against it, rail against it, legislate against it, you lost. Jim Crow was the death throws of an old morality; and so it is today with defense of hate acts, family hate acts. Change is here at our doorsteps and is closing the door on your backwards god of hate and violence. Your judgment day has already come and gone.

No Desert Dude - morality comes from old books, written by people that died millenia ago, who have kindly informed us that *they* talked directly to god. We know this is true, because they wrote it in those books, which we know are true, because they tell us so, in those books they wrote.
Basic Christian theology - God wrote absolute truth in those books, and created a universe full of tricks and lies so people that used logic would go to hell.
QED - God hates rationality

i love that line: “if you don’t believe in same sex marriage, then don’t marry somebody of the same sex.” there is so much common sense in that. if it doesn’t affect them, why try to ruin it for everyone else! kind of goes hand in hand with abortion; if you don’t like abortion, don’t have one. part of me loves what she does, but another is sadden by the fact that we need a comedian to tell us how it is.

So the Wanda talks, Morality comes from her or society. Wrong morality comes from GOD. You may disagree, but in the long run you will have face God on judgment day just as I do. Remember you Only think you have the final word. May God Bless all who disagree. It is written Blessed is the nation who’s God is the Lord.

As usual, Wanda hits the nail on the head. I, too, am frequently confused (and sometimes amused) by people who get up in arms over things that don’t affect them.
As for dp’s comment “We have to be aware of what our neighbors are doing and try to bring them in line with what we think they should be doing”—I had to laugh. What if I, the Pagan, decided to try to bring my Christian neighbors in line with what I think they should be doing? I’d probably get burned at the stake for encouraging radical, evil things such as tolerance and responsible living (i.e. not tossing your trash out the car window, not flooding your yard with chemicals so you can have that golf course lawn).

So true of everything controversial, the idea of taking care of one’s own business and just simply not doing things you don’t believe in....abortion, gay marriage, drinking, smoking pot...but we have the Christian moral standards to uphold in this country. We have to be aware of what our neighbors are doing and try to bring them in line with what we think they should be doing. We don’t have freedoms in this country so much as we are free to be what the moral majority thinks we should be.

Good stuff, Wanda. It’s always baffled me that the “religious,” especially the fundamentalist types, just ASSUME they have the knowledge, the insight, the wisdom, the RIGHT to dictate to others how they should live their lives. They’ll tell you their “Jesus” told them to go forth and spread the “word.” If they must “spread” then I can tolerate that - it’s the ENFORCING when “spreading” doesn’t work well enough that galls me.
They’re the first to complain should anyone say or do anything to “interfere” with their way of life. I don’t know how they miss the arrogance and hypocrisy of their attitude but they sure do!
Luckily there are still enough of us “others” around to remind them to MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS - and that “their own” doesn’t include MINE!
