Not to get into a religious argument but ...
“if every citizen was packing”
I’ve lived in the U.S. where lots of people are “packing” and I’ve lived in a number of other places where tools of violence are not considered an inalienable right. Trust me, the restriction on personal freedom is a small price to pay. It galls to right those words but it’s true.

You got it. We’ll all be through a scanner darkly so on enough. Never mind the state ceasing it’s practices of being total Nazis and forcing injustice after injustice down the throats of a desperate American populace that is close to the edge of snapping.
As usual if every citizen was packing, this kind of thing couldn’t ever happen. I don’t condone violence against the state. Even if I were tempted to, which I am not, I would reject it because it just builds the reactionary security apparatus up. I must say though, that at least the shooter avoided hurting civilians. At least it was purely militant-on-militant, so it could have been much worse.

Probably ... I believe Chertoff is well-invested in the body-scanning equipment.
