Tillman Family, Jessica Lynch Challenge Pentagon MisinformationPosted on Apr 24, 2007
Testifying before the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform, Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman’s brother and mother criticized the Pentagon and the government, which they said manipulated the truth for the sake of political gain. Kevin Tillman, who served with Pat in Afghanistan, had this to say about the exploitation of his brother’s death: “To our family and friends, it was a devastating loss. To the nation, it was a moment of disorientation. To the military, it was a nightmare. But to others within the government, it appears to have been an opportunity. ... A terrible tragedy that might have further undermined support for the war in Iraq was transformed into an inspirational message that served instead to support the nation’s foreign policy wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.” Rep. “I never thought Id say this, but: I think that Jessica Lynch is a hero—now. She stood to lose what little she had, and to gain nothing, by walking into Congress & offering her testimony about the lies that made her a public figure, a hero, etc. Shes sloughed off the cheap, notorious glory tacked on to her in the media, and has become an American woman, a struggling & fallible person, again.”
She has that which is so much vaporware with Bushit, et al.: integrity. A wonderful, mature integrity. Others in the same circumstances have adopted and lived the opportune lie handed them, and took the money and ran.
She didn’t have to testify—it was voluntary. Without fear or favor. That is integrity.
Those lied about have right the truth. Their families have right to the truth. We the people have right to the truth.

“ALL Americans are responsible for the war.”
Your smug “superior” moralism is over the top and despicable. No: NOT all Americans are responsible for the war. SOME of us opposed it from first lie told toward perpetrating it.
You purport to argue against divisiveness. But that is instead what you perpetrate by insulting everyone—everyone—without regard for fact or reasonend distinctions.

Pat and Kevin Tillman were fooled by the Bush-Cheney bunch and their associates. Pat and Kevin joined the Army Rangers thinking they were doing something good and brave.
Many young males want to be warriors, experience excitement and test their bravery and manhood. This is part of male psychology.
Now, fewer adolescent and young adult American males are falling for the deceptions of the Bush-Cheney gang and their neocon, chicken hawk, warmonger and war profiteer cronies and followers. There will be fewer volunteers for an Army that is now “breaking.”
Mid-level officers and sergeants are also starting to leave the active and reserve components of the Army.

It appears now that Pat Tillman might have been deliberately eliminated as an awkward witness of something his commanding cadre didn’t want to be known.
Report thisAccording to his brother Kevin, Pat was fired upon during some half an hour and from a distance of thirty five meters (about a third of a football field length)and in spite of Pat’s repeated calling on the shooters to stop.
His uniform with his personal diary was promptly burned (to wipe out any trace of evidence?) before any investigation could have been carried out.
Since our culture is a culture of lies and fears, our Armed Forces are also immersed in lies and fears.
How could it be otherwise?
Abu Ghraib, Haditha , Faluja, Guantanamo, Secret torture prisons, etc are hardly exceptions as our propaganda lying machine keeps telling us incessantly.
They are rather unmistakable symtoms of a moral rot.

The Iraq war happened because America wanted it to happen. Look at how many ‘liberal’ politicians voted for it (Sen Clinton comes to mind)
We were afraid and we lashed out. The liberal assault on the ruling Conservatives only makes them more fearful and only makes them less likely to admit a mistake.
ALL Americans are responsible for the war. It was hugely popular, and the ‘liberal’ press strongly encouraged it. The War of Terror has been a boon to the profiteering fear mongers at CNN. If you can manage to fight your way through all the popups, see for yourself.

They made over 250 millions dollars last year.
“there is a very profound anger”
Speak for yourself. You are an irrational raging lunatic bent on revenge - not justice. You probably don’t even know the difference between the two.
“its beyond disgusting”
Maybe, anonymousjoe, but at least they aren’t afraid to put their names on their opinions. They may be irrational fear mongers, but at least they aren’t cowards.
Conservative tactics will not work for a Progressive Movement. You will not wash our nation clean with the blood of your enemies.
You will only make it worse.

VIDEO: U.S. Gov. Lies to American People and the Troops
“Our hearing today has been about two cases, the Tillman case and the Lynch case, and in both cases, it seems like we have - we say deceptive - misleading information - it wasn’t misleading information, we have false information that was put out to the American people. Stories that were fabricated and made up.” - Rep. Henry Waxman, Oversight and Government Reform Chairman
US Navy Seal Stephen White was Pat Tillman’s friend and gave a eulogy at the May 2004 memorial service. White was put in the position of unknowingly telling the government’s lie about how Pat Tillman died, “My role as far as at the memorial - it’s a horrible thing that happened with Pat. I’m the guy that told America how he died basically at that memorial and it was incorrect. That does not sit well with me.”

Hear Hear, Bob Zimmerman.
Seeing these rational, calm and honest Americans speaking their minds in a reasonable manner brings the hysteria of media puppets and politicians alike into significant contrast.
This the way to achieve significant change, through reasonable discourse, and understanding.

I was a computer programmer for the Army Research, Development, and Engineering Bureaucracy for 15 years. I then worked for two more years as a defense contractor.
I left the defense industry due to the fear and paranoia created by the War on Terror, and the numerous roadblocks to real productivity created by the ‘privatization’ of the US Military Industrial Complex.
The Walter Reed Hospital Tragedy has made things much worse. The Washington Post succeeded in making a name for themselves by fueling a ‘lust for blood’ in retaliation for the terrible treatment of returning Iraqi War Veterans.
While I’m sure The Post profited handsomely, the nation did not.
Secretary of the Army Dr. Francis J. Harvey is a good man. He was appalled by the substandard treatment of veterans, and was working to correct it. In fact, he had discovered similar problems in other areas of the army and had corrected them.
But The Post wanted blood, and they got it. I watched much of this story unfold on the BBC. Dr. Francis resigned to stop the slaughter; he resigned to save the careers of others.
He is an Honorable man, and in this act, he served his nation far and above the call of Duty.
When Pat Tillman was killed, his fellow soldiers reacted with fear. They tried to cover it up, because they knew if they didn’t, someone might start clamoring for their blood.
They were right.
The progressive media, and many of the ‘pundits’ on this site only want blood, you only want to destroy. You may succeed in slaughtering your way to power, but you will not succeed in making this a better nation.
There are many corrupt politicians and bureaucrats in our government, but they are rarely the ones who end up on the chopping block. And even if you manage to get them there, it won’t help. TruthDig and The Washington Post can crucify all the people they want, but it will not repair a deeply flawed system.
Conservatism is the Politics of Fear. They want to destroy anything that even slightly threatens them.
Conservative tactics will not work for a Progressive Movement.
Progressives need to focus on taking away the Fear, even if it means some bad apples don’t get squashed.
Peace,

The shocking revelations that came out in this hearing should give Americans pause to be skeptical about any of the stories about the war that come from the military, especially its spin on the numerous atrocities committed by U.S. troops in places like Haditha.

I read in an article that Pat Tillman was disillusioned with the war and what he was seeing and had made arrangements to meet with Noam Chomsky when he returned home. I have concerns about the fact that the army destoyed his clothing immediately after his death before an investigation could be completed. I am disturbed to the lengths they went to shut this up and to concoct an entirely different scenario about what happened to Pat in order to manipulate the public. I feel terrible for the family and I applaud them for pursuing the truth.
Report thisI just wonder if what happened to him had anything to do with this meeting with Chomsky who is a respected writer. It would be an explanation for why they burned his uniform and his diary. The administration has gone to such lengths and crossed so many lines in order to start this war, perpetuate this war, expand this war, and destroy or discredit anyone who gets in their way. I don’t believe much any more that they say about anything. I believe they are capable of this. I think they miscalculated when they thought this story would just go away. I hope that whatever the truth really is, that the truth will be found and exposed. This has to stop. It is long past time for truth and accountability.

That said, though: I just don’t think this hearing will slow the meat-grinder…Certainly the shocked reports of shitty hospital conditions and outpatient treatment for vets didn’t result in a mass resistance to service in Iraq…Christ - will ANYTHING, at this point?

These hearings will resonate with the American people. They will lend credibility to the fact that America was railroaded into this illegal war on false pretenses.
Joseph Goebbels would be proud of the propaganda accomplishments of this administration.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the administration deflects the ramifications of these hearings. It won’t be so easy to discredit and brush aside all these witnesses.
Unfortunately a bunch of low ranking individuals will probably be stuck with the blame. It least it will probably be the attempt.

It reminds me of that ole piece of wisdom, “they came for me because I was the only one left” GI Joe/Pat Tillman and family are one of their own? dammit, one would think, but they’re not, outwardly yes, not inwwardly, so what else would it take to impeach a Commander-in-chief, who has never served? an act of Congress? Oh! that’s a great idea!

The anti-hero of the Tillman story is Lt. Col. Ralph Kauzlarich, commanding the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (contact at riley.army.mil), who, stalwart faux-christian that he is, lambasted the Tillman family as trouble-making atheists, who would ‘never be satisfied’, because Pat Tillman would just be ‘worm dirt’, because he didn’t believe in the fables and figments that he, Kauzlarich, was deluded by.
May you rot in the hell that your ‘god’, if he were to exist, would have prepared especially for you, Kauzlarich, you scum-bag SOB.

Re Comment #66175…You are so absolutely right QuyTran. The DOD and most government offices, especially those connected with the fatally flawed slow execution of Iraqi civilians, and most specifically, our beloved military personnel who have no say in the matter; have forever been spewing, “stay the course, we will win, even if it takes another 20 years! WE MUST GET OUT OF IRAQ NOW!! This war will never end as long as the US military is there, and our troops will continue to die for nothing, absolutely f****ing nothing, until we pull out. One day after all the troops are out of Iraq, an escalation of the civil war now being waged, and denied, by geo shrub and cheney the dick, will result in a “winner take all” conflict that again filters out to, who has the must ammunition and jihadists willing to die for allahahahaha! Won’t these brain-washed, easily forgotten souls be surprised when they reach their final destination and discover that their exaulted leaders sold them a load of unfragrant camel poop in exchange for their bodies being blown into a blood and guts soup. Ask yourself; “how can I put any faith in a brain dead robot of the religious right to make the corect decisions about Iraq, global warming, stem cell research or any policy decisions requiring a modicum of intelligence, when president shrub is still fascinated with senor gonzoles and the inner mechanical workings of a revolving door??” Someone killed the greatest President ever, and an idiot tried to send Reagen to the promised land, John Lennon was murdered for no logical reason, some freak shot the Pope for God’s sake; and you mean to tell me that every NRA-loving SOB around isn’t willing to take a shot at his “15 minutes of fame?” A single vote every 4 years ain’t nearly enough to make the changes we need in this country!! Voice your opinion and your dissent when something doesn’t seem right to you!! Get up off your ass and make a difference!! You will feel good again!!

What a classy group of individuals who spoke today, in contrast to the neocons who have repeatedly lied to the American people and to the families of those who died and were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today we got to see real Americans stand up for their country so all can see what real Americans look like. We are not all like the clowns who are running our country today.
