OK, so there’s clearly more important news out there, but when BBC News ran the headline “Parasailing donkey stunt sparks police inquiry,” we wondered what mischief might be afoot. Turns out it concerned yet another genius advertising idea gone horribly awry. We now return to our regular programming. (Video below the excerpt.) —KA

BBC:

The donkey was sent up into the sky last week by entrepreneurs hoping to attract people to their private beach.

Witnesses near the beach on the Sea of Azov in the Krasnodar region said the animal had been screaming in fear.

It landed in the water and was pulled onto the shore, said police.

“The donkey screamed and children cried,” regional police spokeswoman Larisa Tuchkova told the AFP news agency.

Only in america could the turkey stunt be:

1. dreamed up
2. Possibly put in to action
3. If they didn’t go through with it, everybody believed they have done anyway.

lol grin

Aarky,  I may be wrong but I don’t think the turkey incident actually happened, but was an episode of the TV sitcom WKRP - a radio stunt gone bad.  Anyway, I hope I’m not wrong.  Any idiot would know a turkey can’t fly.

The reference to turkeys flying happened, in the US of course, when a bunch of promoters tossed turkeys out of a helicoptor with the idea that if a person could catch one they could keep it. If it would have been wild trukeys, no problem, because they can fly. These were domestic turkeys which have huge chests and are too heavy to be able to fly. They dropped like boulders. I doubt that the stunt with the donkey will get those promoters any business.

AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That was the FIRST thing that hit me when I read the blurb! All I could see was some overweight, goggle-eyed man sounding very, very sincere about donkeys.

Congrats on your cat-like, lightning reflexes!

“The donkey screamed and children cried…”

Damn, I am SURE you got people interested in your private beach with that publicity stunt!

Who knew there were animal protection laws in Russia?

Capitalism is tricky, especially the marketing part, and should really only be handled by experienced professionals.

The first jump is easy.

Our military contractors would have charged at least 2 million to train donkeys to do that.
