Regardless of the fact that large numbers of Americans believe the best way to fix the budget crisis is to tax the wealthy and profitable corporations, Sen. Bernie Sanders says, $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts are taking effect Friday.

“The American people are not divided on the issue,” Sanders told MSNBC host Chris Jansing on “Jansing & Co.” on Wednesday. “They don’t want to see cuts in Social Security, Medicare, education and other important programs. They do want to ask the wealthy and other large corporations to start paying their fair share. It’s unfortunate that Congress is not listening.”
