Remy Raps: ‘Raise the Debt Ceiling!’

Email this item Email    Print this item Print

Posted on Jul 28, 2011

The debt ceiling drama has gone on so long that the issue has reached a critical cultural benchmark: A rap video urging Washington to take action on the matter has gone viral.

Arab-American stand-up comedian Remy Munasifi put a catchy backbeat to his two-and-a-half-minute debt-ceiling theme song, name-dropping issues such as Social Security and Medicare that have kept the debate roiling. —BF

ardee, no harm no foul.

We all get busy and don’t elaborate the way we should.

I believe Government could fully fund socialized medicane (like France), education through college and take care of our less fortunater and elderly and still function with less tax money than it does now.

It’s the greedy bastards who could give a damn about society who get in the way.

OK so now I have to apologize for my rudeness earlier, drat! But seriously ,PH, why post one liners without clarification of your position?

You cannot blame me for jumping to that conclusion considering that your first effort emulated so concisely the position of the Tea Bagger.

Communication, not for the inexperienced.

Ardee,

I concur with your sentiment.  The budget cutting must begin with the military, ending overseas bases and involvement in other nations business.  Park the fleets.  Next we must target the intelligence budget which serves less in the intelligence gathering aspect than promoting a worldwide agenda which is often times in direct conflict with the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Defending this nation begins at home by taking care of the ones who cannot take care of themselves.

I’m surprised and dismayed to see this video on Truthdig!

Entertaining though it may be, it contains lyrics—and even worse, a link to an anti-tax rant on “reason.com”—that propagate a lot of right-wing disinformation on the debt ceiling issue!

WTF?

Yeah ,squeeze the government. But first identify the government of which you speak.

Is it the welfare mom struggling to raise children on inadequate income and food stamps that prohibit even the purchase of soap for freaking sake?

Is it the senior seeking medical care from doctors who wont see him?

Is it our children, deprived of a decent education and then cut off from decent employment?

Is it the worker whose job has gone to China?

Your emulation of the inane Tea Party bullshite is a seemingly purposeful distortion of the real problems here in my nation.

Where is the outrage at Hedge Fund managers making half a billion a year and paying no income tax at all ( capital gains tax is fifteen percent, down there with the semi-employed)?

Where is the call for cutting the defense budget bloated beyond all reasonable need?

Why do you not call for closing loopholes that enable corporations to avoid all taxes and have sent our jobs and their money overseas?

The one liner inanities of you and your fellow Tea Party mouth breathers is really, truly tiresome, and worse, only distorts and hides the real problems we face.

Tell me, how come a smart guy like you shills for fascism?

No, don’t raise the debt, squeeze the government and force it on a diet.
