Re-Volt-ing Dance Could Make You Go BlindPosted on Dec 14, 2009
GM’s new Volt may be able to drive for 40 miles without a drop of gas, but, based on the singing and dancing in this video, it’s clear that the brains that bankrupted this company are still very much in charge. —PZS Via Engadget: Advertisement Previous item: Kucinich, Hedges, Nader Rally at the White House Next item: Israeli-British Relations Hurt by Arrest Warrant New and Improved CommentsIf you have trouble leaving a comment, review this help page. Yes it does !! You take an SUV remove its IC engine removie it gas tanks convert it to electric with
lithium batteries and there is no reason why you cannot have 600 miles on a single charge. Tomorrow’s batteries will go 1200 miles on a charge. We have had 300 mile batteries since 2003 two of those in an SUV conversion will do it.
The technology DOES exist !!
The only thing that stands in the way of 1000 mile batteries is the cost due to the absence of mass
production. Once mass produced it becomes an immediate affordable reality. The technology is there !!
It has been there for years.
I know the science you do not mate !!

typical pop culture dreck - never been to a car show - but exactly what I’d expect
Report this- no different than a sports event, which I never attend either, but have seen on
TV, though not lately - I don’t know why I still live in this country - anyway,
probably not much longer

ardee, very condescending.
Hydrogen is also a byproduct of producing sodium-chlorate, which is used to manufacture pesticides and bleaches. In Vancouver, Canada it is said that there is enough hydrogen as byproduct to power 20,000 hydrogen cars for one year. This technology will be featured in the 2010 Olympics to be held in Vancouver.
if more money was invested in research and development, you dont know how efficient it could be in the future.

This kind of technology doesnt exist! what are you suggesting cold fusion, or magic batteries powered by wishes? perhaps the old “Fish carburetor”

Look to China or Europe to build truly energy competent cars in the future. You KNOW that domestic GM can’t do it, and if you need proof, beyond the VOLT, look at how they botched diesel cars in the 80’s.
But really, what do Americans want? I submit they want Taho size SUVs, not small high mileage cars, based on what you see on the roads in America. Tall, huge vehicles, heavy vehicles. A 40 mile VOLT is not going to get it, except for those who want to be the first to own one, but like the Corvair, and the Citation, these VOLTS will end up selling for pennies on the dollar on used car lots shortly after their introduction.
If you want to spent $50,000 on a VOLT, wait for the new BMWs or Mercedes that will have truly superior high mileage technology, or what VW is planning for it’s small and mid range. (in 2002, VW had an 80mpg diesel small car in Europe called the Polo—-it was slow, but sipped diesel) Or, take the bus and really save the earth by not driving at all. If you haven’t tried the bus in most parts of the country, try it, and you will see why we have cars on the roads.

I have to give it to the performers - they kept their composure dancing to a
ridiculous song and not one blew their cookies. I did, and I was just watching.
Hey - it’s a job!

A bunch of naysaying fools here who attack the Volt over an irrelevant video. What is wrong with Detroit is not the Volt but the gross average low mpg behemoths they have produced historically. This is a significant move in the right direction. And Howard is an idiot to criticize this vehicle for not getting 600 miles on a single charge. Technologically feasible means not a f***ing thing if it can not be produced at a viable price point. What manufacturer in this world is making such a vehicle now? There are a lot of drivers who do around town driving that can do nearly all such trips within a single charge with a Volt type vehicle. Later models can improve on range as battery technology advances.

This is what America gets with its bail out billions. A car that will go 40 miles on electric and 400 on gas. These corporate robber barons are our best and brightest con artists. Sell me a fully electric car I can plug into my home solar power system to charge. Drive less, already do. Consume less, teaching that to my kids. Ration my electricity? Sign me up, my Dad lived through rationing in WWII no problem. The earth is our common responsibility, America owes more on the tab.

The political point is the stupidity of GM and apparently by your comments other Americans too.
The Volt exists NOT to promote electric vehicles
but to avoid and prevent them.
The technology exists TODAY! to have mass produced all electric cars and trucks capable of 600 to 1200 miles on a single electric charge. The reactionary dinosaurs at GM build crap like the Volt precisely as an act of pro-oil-mafia denialism.
The presentation in the video is fiddling while Rome burns it is the final days of an obsolete model of running a corporation, a nation and the world. At least the Soviet leaders had the decency
to admit their time was over and gave up power without a blood-bath. The evidence is clear short of a blood-bath or multiple Katrina disasters in a single year you Americans are clinging to your doomed vehicle of discredited American capitalism
until it drops off the end of the cliff.
Just remember Detroit was retooled for World War II
in a matter of weeks. Guys on production lines who had never even seen a plane close up before let alone ever been up in one found themselves building
the planes that waged a world war. If that kind of transformation was done for war then why not to secure both the ecological viability of the ability to sustain life on earth while also giving fresh blood to the economy based upon wisdom not idiocy?

why indeed ....
In a recent study, fuel cell expert Ulf Bossel explains that a hydrogen economy is a wasteful economy. The large amount of energy required to isolate hydrogen from natural compounds (water, natural gas, biomass), package the light gas by compression or liquefaction, transfer the energy carrier to the user, plus the energy lost when it is converted to useful electricity with fuel cells, leaves around 25% for practical use — an unacceptable value to run an economy in a sustainable future. Only niche applications like submarines and spacecraft might use hydrogen.

if you only had a 40 mile commute to do, ya may as well walk! - as if charging up batteries with electricity made by burning coal is any cleaner. best option would be hydrogen. why are people so stupid.

Back when GM’s stock was waaaay low I bought in. Made a few bucks and got
out. Boy, now I’m so happy I did—if this video is any indication of how they are
‘trying’ to think.
There’s no room for mistakes, now.

I don’t get why this video is on this site, it has no political relevance.
But since it here is I will say the music sucked, but I was impressed by the dancers solid performance, the head spin near the end was strong. You have to give someone credit for putting there all to such a cheesy song in a cheesy setting.
