OWS Prepares to Occupy the WinterPosted on Oct 30, 2011
The surprising October snowstorm Saturday showed that winter’s chill is fast descending on protesters encamped in New York City’s Liberty Plaza. Will they stay or will they go? We’ll find out in the weeks to come, but for now, Wall Street’s occupiers and their supporters seem determined to keep the movement alive. Donations of hats, boots, socks, gloves and other winter clothes are coming in, and the campers are working to find ways to stay warm and powered after the NYPD took six generators away from them Friday. Those interested in donating clothing and other essential winter items can do so here. —Alexander Reed Kelly

Looks like sending a few pairs of gloves would be a good idea
along with anything else you might send. Their spirit is
unparalleled. We should everywhere make a loud noise when
changes in Wall Street take place, like when banks are broken
up, when bankers and parasite financiers are prosecuted.
Looks like debit-card is a big issue now for BofA. If people are
smart, they will withdraw from BofA and find a credit union who
usually have lower loan interests and free checking for some
members, seniors, etc. That is power the bankers would pay
attention to.
From Bloomberg Businessweek today: Bank of America Corp., the
biggest U.S. debit-card issuer, may face pressure to scrap plans to
impose a monthly fee on some card users after its largest competitors
abandoned the strategy amid a consumer rebellion. Without the shout-
out-louds of OWS, I doubt BofA would give it a nanosecond thought.

As I keep saying: New York City is rich with financial and educational resources. If weather gets to be too much for the OWs, plenty of New Yorkers have the ability to find indoor housing for them—universities, colleges, empty buildings in good repair, dorms, community cehters, churche basements, auditoriums at low or no cost.
Then there’s the “host family” idea—a great way to get acquainted with our future—intercultural exchange, anyone? Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
NYC houses hundreds of conferences annually on everything from cancer research to the “in” color for next year’s lipstick. Help house the Second
