Orrin Hatch’s Hanukkah SongPosted on Dec 9, 2009
Can someone explain how über-Mormon Sen. Orrin Hatch came to write a Hannukah song? Oh wait, Jeffrey Goldberg just did and took all the fun out of it. Better to not know, and watch the video. Although it’s worth mentioning that Hatch’s explanation to The New York Times was “Anything I can do for the Jewish people, I will do.” [Thanks, Jim Mamer.] —PZS Tablet Magazine: Advertisement Previous item: Matt Taibbi: Obama's Wall Street 180 Started on Election Day Next item: 'Daily Show': Glenn Beck's Playing to G-O-L-D New and Improved CommentsWe are launching a major overhaul of our comments section. To be a good charitable being is to have a make of openness to the in the seventh heaven, an gift to trusteeship aleatory things beyond your own control, that can govern you to be shattered in hugely exceptionally circumstances on which you were not to blame. That says something exceedingly important about the fettle of the principled life: that it is based on a trust in the unpredictable and on a willingness to be exposed; it’s based on being more like a weed than like a sparkler, something kind of feeble, but whose acutely special beauty is inseparable from that fragility.

Hatch is probably the biggest Zionist pimp on Capitol Hill—and that’s saying a lot… The people of Utah must be inbred bigtime to keep voting this evil little hustler to the Senate…

I spell Chanukah with a C, as the CH sound is missing from the anglicized spelling.
Heard of it on Digby’s website. As an atheist Jew, I have long been bothered by missionaries working on coverting Jews. I do not mind the Mormons making everyone dead into a mormon saint, as does my good Catholic friend. I think my Bubbie is laughing wherever she is. (“Bubba” is Yiddish for grandmother, with the “ie” E. European/Russian ending for loved ones’ nickname)My Bubbie was an Orthodox Jew from Warsaw, the feminist socialist at heart who came here in the early years of the 20th century. As soon as she got her citizenship, she voted regularly until her death in late 1960s.
I “held my nose” to learn about missionaries who target Jews, such as Jews for Jesus (who are Christians). Recently, my kid sister was almost fooled by a group on W. Coast using Hebrew to greet people at a Fri. night service. I asked if they had services on Sun., Christian and same folks; she said “yes”.
She knew what it was when they told her she needed to be reborn and accept Jesus (using Hebrew name) as messiah (which Jews do not).
There was a group that’s informational: Jews for Jews who were fighting the lies in Christian Missionary pamphlets, presentations.
The book I just finished, “Bleeding Kansas” by Sara Paretsky was not her usual, mystery story format, which I prefer, but it had a good synopsis of the missionary reasons to convert Jews, as well as to get us all back to Israel. (Which seems a contradiction to me - but how can one make sense of religion/s?) Some ultraorthodox Jews make a Faustian bargain with the fundamentalist Christians (called Zionist Christians) re support for Israel to hasten the Christian Rapture. Funny how close it is in spelling to raptur (dinosaur)- if I spelled either correctly.
As to the Sen.Hatch- Lynne Samuels, former radio host on WBAI and then WABC (a total R wing station now in NYC)used to say Hatch looks like a guy who is wearing women’s underwear under his clothes. On WBAI: see
