These are my two favorite Quotes from the Short:

Quote #1:
“...that’s why little Billy can’t fall asleep on Christmas Eve because he’s so excited to run downstairs in the morning and unwrap Mary’s placenta and play? with a 2,000 year old Palestinian with an opinion about everything.”

Quote #2:
“Who put you up to this…this agitation, this misuse of the First Amendment and….good camping equipment? Who is your leader?” “Nobody…my heart, I? guess…”

Mr Fish

You and Chris Hedges are pretty much the only reason I return to TruthDig anymore. The vast majority of stories, “ink” etc etc are simply tired old bad, evil Republicans and their counterweight of Obama/Dem apologist articles.

On the bright side, I first seen this on firedoglake.

Where progressive politics, I mean REAL progressive politics is allowed and even encouraged.

A Bird in the Hand:  I think quite probably you are right.  I suspected this might happen from the first, knowing the vicious racism just under the surface in this country. We have a lot of hard work to do if we ever hope to be a nation of equal rights.
The present move to sell public education to the corporate thieves is going to make the struggle even harder. Gird up your loins, everybody, and meet 2012!

Dear Wishingforsanity:

‘to truly dehumanize anybody who is not white and straight has been
almost accomplished. We have a Congress that hates having a black man in the White
House so much that they will play brinksmanship over anything’

What a bunch of BS…Shill..

Yup, it"s all true.  The moneyed machine has rigged the system, the voting booths are a
scandal, the attempt (the supreme court just overruled the most draconian of those
redistricting laws) to truly dehumanize anybody who is not white and straight has been
almost accomplished. We have a Congress that hates having a black man in the White
House so much that they will play brinksmanship over anything, and I mean anything. The
Occupy Movement has seen only a more sophisticated militarized version of what the civil
rights movement saw and thankfully are becoming more creative instead of bowing out
and taking their hopes and dreams home,  The constitution has been ripped to virtual
shreds. We have a president who cares nothing about the environment and has taken
more money from the soulless financial sector than all the Republicans combined.  Voting
either Democrat or Republican gets you a huge helping of more of a police state, citizens
killed abroad without due process, indefinite detentions under military lockdown, grandma
going without her meds, citizens being asked for their papers, and so on and so on..and
somewhere IT HAS TO STOP.
So we can all shrug our shoulders and say “oh well, it’s just too big of a fight because they
have more money and power or we can finally, please, just finally vote for something
different.” Because it’s really put up or shut up time. We’ve been so “shock Doctrined ”
that we believe they’ve already won. BS. A big pile of BS.  We the people have the true
power if only we will use it.
And that means getting really creative. Doing things in much much much larger numbers
than the Occupiers have been able to pull off because most of us are still in our Gilded
Age stupor. Hundreds of thousands in Arab countries rising up. Mere thousands and
mostly in the hundreds or less on the streets here at home. Too many of us so distracted
with gadgets and using “clictivism” as a way to stand behind a change. FB alone has
managed to marginalized us and keep us in our own happy little corners content to see
pics of what a friend ate for lunch rather than be on the streets making sure a stranger
has something to eat.
Pick up a sign, put on a heavy coat, and go out to the streets in huge and I mean HUGE
masses or we will be herded in whatever direction the 1% demand and we will have to
say “thank you, sir, more please sir” because we have done nothing in 35 yrs to stop the
obscenity of the few having a disproportionate amount of everything over the many.
STAND UP. STOP WHINING. OCCUPY EVERYTHING.
Or, you can say once again, “well, we just couldn’t win, I mean how could we when they
had all the money and power?” And that is the definition of getting exactly what you
deserve.

Wow! That’s a pretty spectacular exercise in circular logic, and I thought the how-many-angels-can-dance-on-the-head-of-a-pin string was a few doors down.  Really, the second half where each sentence immediately contradicts the one before, “one man can save us”, reeducate everyone who doesn’t believe like I do,
facts and experience be damned, I have aspirations and emotions.  I can’t tell if you’re defending a religion, or giving a succinct example of why “liberal” incremental change is a joke, or both, simultaneously

There are many thousands of Occupiers, most of whom have cell phones and can network to work together.  If these dedicated people can’t demonstrate their case to the rest of the 99% then it’s because they aren’t using their full abilities.  The two parties have divvied up districts.  That’s true.  But no one who understands what’s going on and has integrity should vote for either of the two major parties.  Neither party believes in democracy.  Neither party tells the truth, or believes in the power of the truth, or operates with any degree of integrity.  If citizens keep voting without integrity they will keep getting what they vote for.  Citizens who don’t understand what’s going on need information.  If enough people had a candidate who they could trust and supported that candidate, that person could help educate the general population on what’s going on.  Consider the alternative:  all others I can think of lead to blood in the streets and what good will that do.  If you’re not willing to fight for what you want, you’re not going to get what you want.  It’s as simple as that.  There are no easy answers.  All the alternatives are just excuses for not having the courage and the will to fight and win.  I don’t mean fight with violence.  I mean fight with imagination, cooperation, and determination.  Those who think some other strategy is going to win the day are the ones who are naive.

Approximately 75% of national and state districts in this country have been gerrymandered, politicians picking voters.  Studies have shown that 90% of races can accurately be predicted to be won by the candidate with the most money.  Add to that, to solve a problem that doesn’t exist, voter fraud, both parties colluded to flood the country with corporate controlled voting machines that practically have tampering instructions in their user manual.  Finally there’s the formidable, if not impossible task, of third parties to obtain and maintain ballot access in many parts of the country, and that is to get into a heavily skewed contest.  How is it cynicism to recognize fact?

Kudos to Mr. Fish.

Happy Holidays TD and Diggers.

To Mr. Goldman…Thank you for clearing that up.  I am in total agreement with you on all
points you made.  The fact is if the elf would stop acting like a sheep he may just find he’d
have been better off not listening to all the true defeatists all along. Republican or
Democrat.  Who knows, maybe just maybe, that little elf, (there are more elves, than
Santas, ) will actually win his dignity back.  One can hope.  And then one can vote their
conscience and tell Santa where to stick his cash. And on that naive, but sincerely hopeful
note, I wish you a peaceful evening.

Democrats and Repubicans can spend $2 Billion any way they want, but as yet they still can’t go into the voting booth with you to make you vote for their guy.  No one can tell an honorable person how to vote and no amount of money can buy his or her vote.  For example, I believe a person of integrity will vote for the candidate they think would make the best president, not the person who has the best chance to win.  It’s the only way the best candidate can ever get to be president.  And if we are going to survive as a nation, that’s what we need more than we ever did before.

I think you got me all wrong… I was expecting something positive on Christmas… and didn’t understand what was being criticized… both parties seemed negative and it just rubbed me as the wrong tone to receive as a Christmas email.

I got in at 2am last night and was in a great mood until I read this, and it really got me really down… How about being positive on this day… is it too much to ask?

@MarkGoldman,

Maybe, just maybe, the reason elves don’t have a prominent candidate with their values to vote for has to do with how the system funds campaigns.  No money no candidate.  That is how oligarchies work, but it ain’t no democracy.

To Wishingforsanity:  I really like your name.  Wish there was more of you around.  Just to be clear, I am all for the little elf.  I sympathize with his plight. After all, I’m an elf too.  I just don’t like the way he’s been marginalzed by other folks who think they’re helping him by telling him he can’t win, and shouldn’t try, especially if he thinks he can win by joining forces with others and voting for what he really believes in.  The only thing the little guy lacks is some confidence to think for himself and take bold action rather than wait and see what everyone else is going to do first.  While the elf is waiting to see what everyone else is going to do, someone else is getting ready to pick that little guy’s pocket.  Happens every election cycle.  It’s not the elves who vote for what they want who are the spoilers, it’s the elve’s who are so afraid of losing that they don’t even try who are the spoilers.

There are very few things that make me truly happy on December 25th.  Celebrating the
birth of a myth is not one of them.  This cartoon, by the ever ingenious Mr. Fish made me
happy and I thank him for that.

Ya know what didn’t make me happy?  The comments by oh, George and many others.
But let me just tear into George. Because clearly trying to stay polite on TruthDig’s
comments is useless. So here goes….THIS IS THE ONE TIME DURING THE YEAR
THAT WE ARE CARING?  What about extending that to the other 364 days that don’t
have to do with consumerism and pretending and bowing to a religion that is full of hateful
beliefs.  How about YOU do something other than attack somebody who is doing
something through his art.

Art is the most powerful form of DOING that I can think of. SO the truly lazy, criticizing
hater here is you George and Mr. Goldman who both clearly believe that wanting change
and expressing it in creative ways is “pompous” and the “the elf” is too stupid to do the
right thing.

So if you haven’t had a chance yet to truly experience the joy of Christmas or Hanukkah
this year by pepper spraying somebody at a Walmart so that your precious child gets their
precious toy made by other precious children through slave labor, you still have a few
hours left. I’m stunned at the ignorance of both of your reactions.

What’s so funny about peace love and understanding? Happy effing holidays.

Your’re one sick puppy mr fish… Just seems that you want to attract undue attention to your “talent” - Very depressing and unnecessary for the one time of the year that we’re the most caring… How about DOING something instead of criticizing and pompous attempts at being controversial. We need to unite our efforts and stop the hate.

Who is this elf complaining to.  A legitimate government is one whose job it is to insure a level playing field so that all citizens have a fair chance to reach their full potential as human beings.  But he’s not even complaining to the government.  I know. We have a government that has sold us out to this guy.  Rocky Anderson could very well be a candidate for president who understands this and would work for justice rather than for Mr. Moneybags here.  But the guy holding the sign won’t vote for what he wants because he’s afraid of losing the election and getting someone even worse than the liar and cheat he’s already decided to vote for.  Truth is, if the elf won’t vote for, and work for, and stand up for whatever he really wants, he will never get what he say’s he wants. Never. It takes courage and wisdom to win your freedom and most elves don’t have enough sense to support candidates who are aligned with their values and would help educated the public as to what those values are.  The elf will never win, because he doesn’t have the balls or the courage to fight unless he gets a guarantee he will win even though most people want what he wants too.  This elf never will win.  Elf…. you’re an idiot.
