The Unemployed Philosophers Guild

Stephan Shaw and his company have been making politically charged novelty gifts for years without incident, so he was surprised when state Rep. Joe Armstrong of Tennessee had his Barack Obama-themed candy “Disappointmints” banned from the University of Tennessee bookstore.

Here Shaw speaks with producer Joshua Scheer in a bonus segment from Truthdig Radio in collaboration with KPFK.

New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

My understanding of this story is rather different.

The Same ‘Disappointments’ used to be sold, only featuring George W Bush. These were sold at the same University store in the past and the conservative students just took the joke poked at them.

Now that its “Obama Disappointmints”, no more sales are allowed.

The point of the story isnt that Karl Rove closed down free expression of “Disappointment” in Obama. No. no. You could sell all the mints criticizing Bush that you wanted to sell, so dont hang this on some sort of conservative plot, James deLaurier. thats dishonest.

There is something else going on here. University Leftists who support Obama shut criticism of him down.

In our Universities, everyone is treated equally, but some politicians are treated more equally than others.

Thank you for posting this entry on Truthdig.
This is only one of many similar events taking place in this Country that demonstrate the declivity of “our” Nation.Unfortunately, this must serve as a harbinger of what we must expect to see and hear in the future.                            It is for this reason that President Obama must remain in office for another term. His willingness to continue to support and maintain the draconian policies of the previous administration is absolutely imperative to codicil the agenda,we call Democracy. He will then make permanence all policies on record since 2001.
Thanking you for this opportunity to comment -
    James M. deLaurier
