Robert Mugabe Does Not Approve of This Humorous Fast Food Ad

Zimbabwe’s own Robert Mugabe is the unlikely star of this startlingly funny little number that its sponsoring chicken restaurant chain, Nando’s South Africa, calls “Last dictator standing.” This did not please the real-life version of the ad’s fun-loving dictator, as the fictionalized Mugabe is seen frolicking in a series of increasingly ridiculous scenarios with the likes of Moammar Gadhafi and Saddam Hussein.

Although the spot was made for a South African audience, it reached Zimbabwean televisions through satellite subscription services, leading to some serious threats from Mugabe’s supporters. The Washington Post has more on the fallout here, but the fun part is posted below.  —KA

Well, Jo, not in Zimbabwe. Millions of Zimbabweans have fled their home country, mostly to South Africa, because of Mugabe’s brutality towards any and every political opponent.

It’s all very basic. Vote for me, and you’ll have access to food. Vote against me, and you’ll starve. And my henchmen will assault you, or kill you, or burn your home down to the ground.

This ‘last dictator’ and his family live in the utmost luxury (his mansion just about resembles Versailles on the inside), but ordinary Zimbabweans have nothing. Because he handed out the thousands of farms that were seized from legitimate farmers to his political cronies and family, food production has plummeted. There simply isn’t enough to eat, which is shocking, in view of the fact that the soil is fertile, and that Zimbabwe used to be a food exporter.

So. Laughing at Mugabe is the least one can do.

Regards
Marietjie

Why don’t white people talk about their own killer dictators who have ordered the deaths of far more people all over the worldm that Mugabe or Gaddafi?

The simple rule of thumb in my quarters tends to be that if whitey (including leftist whiteys) don’t like a black leader then chances are that leader is doing something right for black people.

Which just goes to show that us South Africans are a spirited bunch with a vivid sense of the ridiculous.

Good stuff. Why is it the most vicious people never
have a sense of humor. Someday science might figure
that out.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to see what part of Mugabe’s
brain lights up when he watches this…..
