In November of 2008, U.S. Army soldier Corey Shea was killed while serving in Mosul, Iraq, shortly before he was due to return home to his mother, Denise Anderson, in Massachusetts. Now, Anderson is fighting for the right to be buried with her son in a veterans’ cemetery when she dies, but that would require changing the law.

Hence the proposed Corey Shea Act, which would extend the option to be buried in military cemeteries to a broader circle of relatives of fallen soldiers. In this clip, Sen. John Kerry discusses what’s currently on the books and what could change in the future if Anderson succeeds in her bid to be interred with her son.  —KA
