Michigan Law Grads Walk Out for Gay RightsPosted on May 10, 2011
More than 100 graduates of the University of Michigan Law School left mid-ceremony Saturday to protest commencement speaker Sen. Rob Portman’s position against gay marriage and adoption. One grad said afterward that lawyers have been essential in the fight for American civil rights and that she and her classmates felt compelled to take a leading role for LGBT rights. Nice to see this side of the legal profession, eh? —KDG AP via YouTube: Advertisement Previous item: Bin Laden Watching Himself on TV: Meta or Mundane? Next item: Campaign 2012: Where’s the GOP? To those of you UoM Law School students who peacefully,
Report thisarticulated Law’s unflinching respect and protection of
human rights generally and civil rights in particular:
you have restored my belief that not all of us have
forgotten the meaning of what it means to be an
American.

This is one of the most heartening things I’ve read in minute! My only question,
Report thisand this goes out to the administration at the UoM Law School, Portman? What in
the world were you all thinking? Unfortunately, being from Ohio, I now have to live
with idiots like him and Kasich every day until the next election. And I congratulate
the law students there for their actions, and believe me, its rare to find anything
nice about the lawyers and legal system in the U.S.
