Mexico Builds Border Wall to Keep Out U.S. AssholesPosted on May 13, 2010
This immigration-themed parody from the geniuses at the Onion is much needed at this time. Actually, we were a little slow to come upon it, but its relevance—and brilliance—endures. Someone ought to stream this directly into Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s office, stat. Onion News Network:

OK, what’s up. I know this is a parody, but all I got to see was a gringo tourist kid with a tattoo and a sombrero, (traded it in for his 10 gallon I suppose) standing on a street that could have been in Tijuana or South Central LA, or any number of other places in the world. It lasted about 4 seconds, and then the little movie clip just stopped.
Was that the whole thing, or were there other US assholes in the clip as well? Like maybe a bunch of ‘boomers’ who’ve retired down there long ago, and pretty much taken over the choicer pieces of Mexican real estate. And we KNOW that’s been going on for decades.
They could have added to this by taking photos of all the US logos and corporate business signage, to show all of the other stuff that US assholes have done in and to Mexico…specifically since NAFTA.
Anyway, I know how they feel. It used to amaze me as an airport worker, just how incredibly arrogant and obtuse Americans are. And that’s giving them/us the benefit of the doubt, because it might just be pure unadulterated ignorance.

Only truthdig would have to explain to its readers that the piece is a parody. And it’s no wonder that truthdig, being nearly impervious to irony, is unfamiliar with The Onion.
