‘Left, Right & Center’: Troop Timetable, Budget Breakdown, Fed Forecast

Posted on Jun 24, 2011
Left, Right & Center

So, now we know Obama’s big plan for pulling American troops out of Afghanistan, but it hasn’t exactly been well received. This week’s “Left, Right & Center” panel—featuring Tony Blankley, Matt Miller, Robert Scheer and Chrystia Freeland—offers no exception to the naysaying.

Also up for discussion: Hopes for a bipartisan deal on the deficit were dashed Thursday, and more bad news from the Fed. Take it away, folks.  —KA

Tony seems to think commodities futures trading in a good thing?  What good
comes from Chase Manhattan Bank being involved?

I hesitate to say it, I do, but to hear a naturalized citizen such as Blakley, who never wore a rifle in battle, who is an employee of a flunkey such as Sun Moon, who supported and admires Newt Gingrich; to hear him talk about the soldiers who volunteer because of ideals—I want to puke. What was Nuremberg but a universal repulsion to those who believe that following orders exempt one from guilt? Does Blakley really believe that German soldiers were not full of idealism? Gott mitt uns Tony. What is feeding our young men to war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan? I suspect Tony is one of these bourgeois fat cats that supports the armed forces because they will be the ones to defend his sorry tuckus when our Lenin comes calling. I fully agree with Sheer about Columbo, it was one of the few programs Hollywood ever produced that poke the bourgeousie in the gut. The Honeymooners was another. Sanford and Son, All in the Family. But not many others. As far as Blakley is concerned: “Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels,” that includes Newt.
