‘Left, Right & Center’: Default or Deal?Posted on Jul 30, 2011
With Tuesday’s default deadline looming, time is running out. Is there a chance for compromise on the debt ceiling impasse? Washington was a frenzy of proposals and plans and political posturing this week. And the cherry on top is the grim news from the Commerce Department that the nation’s economy grew much slower than expected in the first half of this year. “Left, Right & Center” regulars Robert Scheer, Tony Blankley and Matt Miller, with guest panelist Chrystia Freeland, use the entire program to discuss the debt ceiling “madness.” —BF

There is less certainty now that the Republican miscreants will bring default than there was that the mediocre miscreant would bring war with Iraq shortly after 9/11. The difference was that 9/11 brought Bush a cause to exploit. Now we have no real cause, but many miscreants in the House and one without a spine in the White House, who has caved so often that Republicans play with him like a toy, and who, even in the final hour, would not risk a Fourteenth Amendment action to save economic disaster that clueless and ignorant Republicans will needlessly bring about.
But for many years now, so few have wrecked lives for so many.
