“Left, Right & Center” lost one of its integral members since the long-running show’s last episode with the death of conservative co-host Tony Blankley on Jan. 7. For this week’s edition, Matt Miller, Robert Scheer, Arianna Huffington and guest panelist Mary Matalin pay their on-air respects to Blankley, who fittingly gets the last word.  —KA

As an old, life-long liberal/progressive, I admit that Tony Blankley’s comments
never angered me.  Perhaps it is because he could express his views in such a
thoughtful way, like a gentleman discussing current issues in a London Club.  This
is such a contrast to the in-your-face diatribes that one reads on the internet.
The only other conservative spokespersons who had such charm were William
Buckley and perhaps George Will.  With all three there was an element of
aristocratic charm and an excellent, if arcane, vocabulary.
The worst thought that ever came to my mind about their opinions was “how
naive!” or “how elitist” or “how unaware you are of the real world problems of
ordinary people!”  They seemed to have swallowed the Adam Smith capitalist line
thoroughly without reference to global and current changing conditions
As for the Republican party, I kind of felt sorry for Tony Blankley’s association
with them given the organization’s take-over by right-wing, evangelical Christian
conservatives, Tea-Party types and their rank and file “dumb” followers.
For all this, I will miss hearing Tony on LEFT, RIGHT AND CENTER.
