Be glad that Wiki-wizard Julian Assange isn’t your houseguest, for a number of startling reasons dramatized (or spoofed, rather) in this sendup created by a “Colbert Report” insider, some news-savvy performers and a really awkward Warhol wig.

For some actual Assange house-arrest weirdness, click here. Perhaps this provided part of the inspiration for the below clip.  —KA

New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

I entirely agree with the posts above.  There is nothing more cowardly than an American “liberal”, entirely without backbone or principle and always hedging his/her bets.

Perhaps the same “agent group” did this staged debacle, as did the
fraudulent Osama bin Laden Video debacles.

Obviously, Truthdig is being overtaken by the genuine anarchist
entourage, which international entourage, HQ in Wash DC, has been
partially revealed by the Wikileaks entourage.

I have wondered how long it would be until the leadership of Truthdig
would be given the choice of _______ , or else, by pawns of the USGov
shadow government.

As should be obvious, Mr. Scheer is throwing in his lot with his pal Arianna on the
“respectable” left in circulating this offensive and tedious hit against Assange.

While there’s some decent stuff here, most notably Hedges, the presence of
establishment liberals like Eugene Robinson and E.J. Dionne (recently singing the
praises of David Broder) is more than enough grounds for suspicion that truthdig,
like Huffpo, is just another temporarily left leaning outlet whose ultimate purpose
is selling out to the highest bidder.

‘This is nothing but a mediocre travesty, and a discredit to Truthdig that they would give it space at this particular time.  Is Truthdig trying to be sure to be “above reproach” when the crunch comes?
It certainly appears that that is the case, and I don’t admire that stance.  Rather, I see it as an attempt to discredit WikiLeaks in general, Assange in particular and, in spite of making noises in support of freedom of information, attempting to equivocate and, if necessary, to refuse to stand up and support transparency in government.

Nothing has been proven with the tortured Bradley Manning anymore than with Julian Assange so it is irrelevant to me his personal habits in this case. I can quite easily condemn them if he crossed the line with those women but it shouldn’t be used as an anvil and boat hook to reel him in to the Corporate United States of the Holy Military.

I loved Frank Sinatra’s music, but I’m not so sure I would have wanted him to date my sister.

Not funny at all, more whining humor from the self absorbed dwindling middle class.

Bradley Manning sits naked in a cell, Assange is threatened with treason even though he’s not an citizen.

Keep laughing America.

Pvt.Bradley Manning is the hero, who took the brunt of the risk and now the torture routine at Quantico.  Julian Assange, although he has some redeeming qualities, actually does have some unsavory aspects about him. He has always been the go-between. His role in this affair requires a lot less risk.

He’s a hero, you people are disgusting for mocking him.  He’s the only one who’s given us an ounce of pure truth in this entire disaster that embodies the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
