Steal land ? Hardly. Any land they have was gaind by defending against armies that attaacked them. Jordan had the west-bank for 18 years prior and could have given it to the pal’s. Egypt had the gaza strip and could have given it the pal’s. Nope , neither done did.

Indeed, ‘48 saw land split between Israel and the Pal’s; but while Israel accepted and has thrived, the Pal’s refused and adjacent arab countries attacked the the country of Israel and swore to push them into the sea. Not happened yet. though the intent is still there. And propounded in their schools, media, mosques.

Israel is only 63 years old and was created at the same time Palestine was created. Of course as millions of Europeans overwhelmed the region and the natives were displaced and oppressed, it continues today.

Juan Cole is absolutely correct regarding a veto on Palestinian UN recognition. Not only will a no vote be a humiliation for the USA (as in, ‘who made us do that?’) but it will also be a flex point in history, marking a new reduction of American relevance and influence in this new world. Israel stubbornly hangs on to delusional behavior, and has dragged us into the delusion; but the world has changed alot in the last few years. This is a great opportunity for the US, and if we blow it out of fear of Netanyahu, we’ll look all the weaker.
