John Oliver: ‘Protecting Net Neutrality’ Should Be Called ‘Preventing Cable Company Fuckery’

Posted on Jun 3, 2014
Screen shot/YouTube

“The cable companies have figured out the great truth of America,” explained the “Last Week Tonight” host Sunday. “If you want to do something evil, put it inside something boring.” Oliver then went on to give a hysterically funny call to arms to all Internet trolls to comment on the FCC’s website in order to save Net neutrality.

Trolls or not, however, this is indeed the time to speak up and save the open Internet. You can do so for the next few months at www.fcc.gov/comments.

If you’re not sure why Net neutrality is so important (and no one can blame you seeing as, like Oliver pointed out, the media’s coverage of the issue has been some of the most mind-numbingly boring television to date), watch his brilliant explanation about what losing it would do to the country, how intertwined cable company lobbies are with D.C. and how much cable companies resemble mobs. Seriously, it’s the most informative few minutes about net Neutrality out there.

And for those of you who already know and care about saving the Internet, watch the clip anyway. It will add years to your life in laughter.
