In this sit-down discussion with the Real News Network, Helen Thomas, deposed doyenne of the White House press corps, discusses her moment of infamy last spring that led to her resignation, claiming she didn’t know she was being interviewed at the time but standing by her controversial commentary about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. —KA

Helen Thomas is person that America can be proud of, instead of behaving in such a cowardly fashion and forcing her out of her job.

The White House press corps should be ashamed of itself, to a man, for not defending her position.

Blind support for Israel and its policies is the moral fashion of the day. Remember
the bell bottom? At the time everybody thought they looked pretty bichin’, but now
we look back and say, “what were we thinking”?

One day we’re going to look back with a mix of incredulity and revulsion that we
somehow allowed a handful of people to convince a nation devoted to the
principals of religious freedom, fair representation, equal opportunity, and justice
for all, to stand behind an imperialist, proto-fascist theocracy.

Provided that we don’t end up as casualties in their holy war, of course.

She said something stupid and she’s too old to be working-and she looks like one of Yasser Arafat’s cousins.
Three reasons she shouldn’t be working anymore.

Helen Thomas has usually been right, and this time
around she most certainly is. I was shocked at the
immediate knee-jerk reaction of press and
politicians.

The First Amendment, like most of our revered
documents, applies to a select few. Helen, with her
Middle Eastern ethnicity, is not one of the favored.

If Thomas said “Israel should get out of Palestine”, meaning the occupied territories, she was certainly fired unjustly.

The further comment regarding “them” going back to Germany or Poland et al. is certainly offensive and just not open to interpretation, and I do not mean concentration camps.
Israel is a legally constituted nation, one certainly in violation of international law and thus her comment wishing them back to Europe is what got her canned.

Both Helen Thomas and I are against the actions of Israel vis-a-vis the Palestinians and I wish her a fruitful and happy retirement.

I think she is very rational and sensible.  I agree with her fully on Israel and its actions.

It is time to amend that famous quote by Sinclair Lewis to: When fascism comes to America it will be carrying a flag,a cross AND the star of David.

We love you in Australia Helen.  You are the only
journalist in America at the moment with any
identifiable integrity.  Don’t worry about what you
said—the truth will endure long after these
blowhards are finished with you.  Journalism is an industry that is not particularly interested in the truth, particularly in your line—working with the criminal element who deign to call themselves our leaders.  You are a heroine to women and people of conscience everywhere!

Another rather >shocking example< of double-standard
being applied against a true American citizen -
unlike this LL-Eric Cantor - and what`s totally wrong with the US of America for some time -
just plain Disgusting !

Sorry, Helen

I have always admired you, but part of my work is media, filming and interviewing.

You are a journalist.  You are always being ‘interviewed.’

No excuse.

In the land of the brave and of the free Helene Thomas should have had
clearance from the likes of Congressman Eric Cantor who it seems quite likely tha
he represents Mr, Netanyahu and the Israeli government in the USA.

What happened to HT is further proof of who “actually/really ” speaks for
America.
