GOP Senator: ‘Video Games Are a Bigger Problem Than Guns’

In an interview on MSNBC ahead of the Senate’s hearing on gun safety Wednesday, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., responded to a question by Chuck Todd on background checks for gun buyers by changing the subject to ... video games.

“Can you envision a way of supporting the universal background checks bill?” Todd asked.

“Chuck, I’m going to wait and see on all of these bills. I think video games is [sic] a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people,” Alexander answered. “But the First Amendment limits what we can do about video games, and the Second Amendment to the Constitution limits what we can do about guns.”

Once again, this is an actual U.S. senator. An actual senator from the United States. That was elected to an office. This is a person who has a significant amount of power in this country, and he believes that video games are a bigger problem than guns.

This is a good time to remind everyone that there is no scientific evidence linking video games to violence.
