Gates: Assange’s Arrest Is ‘Good News’Posted on Dec 7, 2010
One would imagine that certain figures in the U.S. military and government, such as Defense Secretary Robert Gates here, might not be heartbroken over the news of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s arrest—and one would be right. Gates made his sentiments clear in an interview with The Associated Press in Afghanistan on Tuesday. —KA AP via YouTube: Advertisement Previous item: ‘Left, Right & Center’: What a Wiki-Week It Was Next item: Obama Attempts to Justify Tax-Cut Compromise New and Improved CommentsIf you have trouble leaving a comment, review this help page. Join the Australian GetUp! campaign to help Julian:

Or there’s a similar effort at Avaaz.
Executive power is not stronger than either the people or a truly independent court of justice.

The real terrorist work on Capital Hill in Washington D.C., and in the White House. Have you noticed that the Ownership Class, and the politicans who work for them laugh at protesters, but when Private First Class Bradley Manning, and WikiLeaks expose their dirty deeds to the world, they do not laugh. Moral to the story, “You got to hit them where it hurts.”

There is mounting evidence in the Wikileaks cables that suggests the US has been interfering in the Australian political process by meeting secretly with powerbrokers involved in the ousting of Kevin Rudd as PM. Apparently Kev did what he thought was right instead of what he was told to do by the US. Rudd has rightly vowed to support Assange, and now the US-supported right in Australia is using their media hacks to attack Rudd and pressure Gillard to sack him as Foreign Minister.

Another neo-Nazi heard from! Isn’t it time for Americans of conscience to repudiate these criminals who commit atrocities against countless innocents in our name and whose only true purpose is to ensure the international hegemony of the corporatocracy?

I’m glad to know our defense secretary supports frivolous prosecutions based on hardly any evidence. If they went after priests who molested kids like they’re doing to this guy who had consensual sex with women who “just happened” to think it was rape years later - this world would be a better place.
As it stands, there are many who think that any sex outside of marriage warrants jailing a man - so I doubt there will be many who have any sympathy for such a heathen.
It’s now official, any sex you have at all ever can be called rape at any time by the partner if she doesn’t like you in the future. Sweden is making a mockery of their judicial system.
Defense Secretary Gates is a humiliation to the Constitution of the United States, and a traitor to it.

Ironic that I, too, believe Assange’s arrest and subsequent trial, if it actually comes to that, is a good thing also. The more publicity this frame up encounters the more ridiculous it is going to seem and the more culpable the USA will seem as well.

IMO, Gates’ comment “comes off as” very low key, considering the circumstances. This should be pointed out especially because of all the hyper-ventilating going on in other governmental quarters and media outlets who should know bettter.
(And on that note, it’s one of many ironies in our present situation that a guy named “Lieberman” is a man almost completely self-enchained by prejudices and defense mechanisms. Yet he can get air-time and print-space anytime he wishes to push his prejudices onto others too ignorant or frightened to know what he is doing.)
