Gaga Performs in Drag for MTV Awards Show

Email this item Email    Print this item Print

Posted on Aug 28, 2011

Lady Gaga sang her opening number at Sunday’s Video Music Awards in drag, confusing the hell out of a number of stars in attendance, including Britney Spears, who, mouth agape, looked like she had just walked in on her parents.

Before she got to the singing part, Gaga performed a monologue more than three minutes long, describing herself as Jo Calderone, the pop star’s jilted lover. The drag part wasn’t nearly as weird as the monologue itself, with lines like “She comes out of the shower still drippin’, still got the heels on! At first it was sexy, but now I’m just confused.” You’re not alone, Jo.  —PZS

Please don’t put this stuff on here, dearest Truthdig!
HuffPost gradually degenerated into tabloid by posting stuff like this.

I think it’s charming that one can still shock celebrities and get a round of abuse from vapid blog-doggers merely by appearing in drag.  So mid-20th-century!  But I guess if it works, it works.

This ho is a bo. Copying Madonna doesn’t seem very original and IF she had any talent at all, it would have separated her from Madonna, not connected her. True talent is beyond the McCulture of today.

Poor Britney, the first time I really feel sorry for her!

Please, Truthdig. Not you too.  One Huffington Post is enough.

I guess an attempt on a Andrew Dice Clay impersonation.  Or just an opportunity to talk about herself.  Gaga seems to have an almost pathological obsession with herself.

Good for Gaga, giving the squealing girls in the audience something to actually think about.  The expressions on some of the brain-dead celebrities in the audience is priceless.

OK, cute idea but that monologue went on waay too long and felt weirdly megalomaniacal, her talking about herself in the third person.
