Everyone Pile On Rick Sanchez!

This has not been excitable former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez’s week. Things went downhill for the newsman after he took a straight-up anti-Semitic shot at Jon Stewart, calling the “Daily Show” host a “bigot” on Pete Dominick’s radio show and extrapolating wildly to make the tediously unoriginal but still highly offensive accusation that people “a lot like Stewart” run CNN. Whatever could he mean?

Well, that genius move got Sanchez canned by whatever kind of people actually run CNN, and by Monday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Stewart was ready with his rejoinder. And how.

Meanwhile, over at CBS, David Letterman familiarized himself both with Sanchez and the particulars of the Sanchez-Stewart implosion and made “Rick Sanchez Excuses” the topic of his famed Top Ten list on “The Late Show” on Monday night. (We liked “Trying to impress Mel Gibson,” for the record.)

The fallout from his comments, or perhaps the heavy weight of his own conscience, apparently caused Sanchez to seek Stewart’s forgiveness, as reported by Mrs. Sanchez in the form of an update posted on her Facebook wall on Monday. Suzanne Sanchez completed the multimedia loop by urging readers to watch Stewart’s show—yes, the one in which Stewart excoriates her husband—that night. Let the healing begin.  —KA

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.
