Dick Cheney Can’t Talk About NSA Spying, but He Loves It

The former vice president and world champion chicken hawk tells CNN he cannot discuss classified programs, like the one that reportedly involves the U.S. spying on its closest allies, but “[w]ithout speaking about any particular target or group of targets,” he’s a huge fan.

Why, presses CNN’s Jake Tapper, must we spy on allies? Without confirming that that is what we do, Cheney responds, “We are vulnerable, as was shown on 9/11, and you never know what you’re going to need when you need it.” And sometimes—like on 9/11—you have what you need (like a presidential briefing saying bin Laden determined to attack), you just don’t know it.
