Faith. Family. Military. When you hear those three issues, which political party do you think is more likely to make them a focal point of its convention: Republicans or Democrats? If you said the GOP, you’d be wrong this year. The Democratic National Convention has focused a fair amount on those matters this time around, something “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart noted on his program Wednesday evening.

Here’s Stewart’s summary of the Democratic National Convention thus far: “America is the greatest, self-reliant, mom and dad, eagle-creator that has ever existed in the history of Jesus.” Come to think of it, that sounds exactly like a Republican convention. As he noted, the Democrats had loaded their schedule with “so many soldiers and clergymen, you can almost forget that you were watching the Democratic convention.”

Stewart also poked fun at the Democrats for painting President Obama as an almost mythical, superhero-like figure on night one of the convention. “Is he Iron Man now?!” the Comedy Central host asked incredulously. Based on the anecdotes told by Tuesday night’s convention speakers, the answer to Stewart’s question appears to be yes.
