‘Daily Show’: It’s the Career Politicians, StupidPosted on Jan 19, 2010
Why is the U.S. in the dire financial straits it’s in? Well, “Comeback America” author David Walker, who was formerly the country’s comptroller general and head of the Government Accountability Office, has a few ideas about what led to our “dysfunctional democracy” and he lays it all out in this clip from “The Daily Show.” Meanwhile, Jon Stewart gives an alternate translation for “e pluribus unum”: “We’re winging this.” Sounds about right. —KA

This is a disappointing performance by Jon Stewart.
Report thisDavid Walker and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation he
works for are part of the latest attempt to loot
Social Security. Excellent articles detailing this
by William Greider and economist Dean Baker have
recently appeared. Stewart seemed unaware of this,
given that he didn’t even ask about it. He seemed to
be promoting Walker’s alarmist technique of adding
together year after year of future expenses to
produce scary-big numbers, rather than calling him
out on it. Maybe next time he’ll do better.

Even better than this was Stewart’s rant on the MA election. TD should post that one as well. He really gives it to the Dems for screwing up.
