Two surprise guests dropped by “The Daily Show” on Thursday. First came Stephen Colbert, whose apparent failure to score a permit will lead to a hybrid “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” on Oct. 30. And then Oprah Winfrey crashed the show to announce that she’s picking up the tab to send the studio audience to the Washington rally.

New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

Robespierre, I’m with you. The money spent on this shindig could’ve gone a long way to find and support progressive candidates in this most recent election.

These people are a joke. Oprah and these guys make pretty good paychecks, instead of giving in to their brand of watered down b.s., we should instead follow the example of the French and Greek workers, instead of holding “rallies for sanity” we should be storming cities and kicking some oligarch ass.
