Despite the collective outrage and alarm of noted hip-hop scholars Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, the artist known as Common turned up on Wednesday to perform a spoken word piece at a celebration of poetry at the White House. And lo, it was good. He even made a Christ reference!  —KA

New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

far cry from Pablo Casals, would that the POTUS listened not only to his music, but
his thoughts: “Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens
to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is
not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his
own good”

“Thanks to one King’s dream, he was able to Barack us.”  Wonderful!  What’s all the fuss about?

OK- so all you other whities are afraid to touch this. It was lame!  Spoken word
doesn’t do much for me when song is much more effective. Yes it was a “poetry”
event. So Christ is coming? Is Common going to hook up with Harold Camping
next?  To me his pitch was just jive- I hear it all the time in Philly.

barak

verb (used without object)

to engage in a drone strike on single or multiple human targets with little concern for
collateral damage; attempt to subdue and subjugate a native pollution that lives in mud huts
with multi million dollar radio controlled bombing technology: One Kings dream he was able
to barak us.
