Chris Hedges Testifies About the Lies and Losses of WarPosted on Aug 2, 2010
Journalist, author and Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges brought his years of experience in the world’s war-torn zones to bear on this challenging speech he gave in March for the Truth Commission on Conscience in War at New York City’s Riverside Church. In this clip, Hedges points out that Americans “are as capable of perpetuating evil as those who oppose us, and this existential crisis is one that turns those who have the courage to stand up and speak ... into outcasts, pariahs, prophets.” Can we get an amen? —KA YouTube: Advertisement Previous item: U.S. Has a Plan to Attack Iran Next item: 'Daily Show': Much Media Ado About Chelsea's Wedding New and Improved CommentsWe are launching a major overhaul of our comments section. These wars have really messed with my head BIG TIME. Most of our soldiers were just kids really when they went into this hell. It is not socially acceptable for them to express the horror and so they just push it down into their guts. Makes me mad sometimes GRRRRRRRRH!
I like to watch this sometimes when it bums me out:

Riverside Church is an all-too-rare religious sanctuary for nonviolent resistance.

My father never recovered from his pain in war although he never talked about it. He just shook his head at the Veteran’s marching in parades, and said ‘I did what I had to do to survive, but I am not proud of it.’
Violence permeates our society in many other ways. Often in relationships, work, in the legal system, and even in University, I have felt a violence. It tires me to stand up to it. This type of violence is dealt with by Derrick Jensen.

Only 9 minutes? That’s way too little when it comes to hearing Chris’ words of wisdom.
