During his comfortable sit-down with Matt Lauer on Wednesday’s “Today” show, former President George W. Bush was visited by the pre-taped image of a contrite Kanye West, who was all ready to make nice after his Bush-is-a-racist claim of yesteryear, declaring that “in a situation of high emotion like that, we as human beings don’t always choose the right words.” Over to you, W.  —KA

New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

We are living in a post-rational age. A thuggish moron with no redeeming value, who by hook and crook usurped the charge of the biggest empire in the history of the world, while not being qualified to run even a small grocery store, causing innumerable miseries at home and abroad - that if there was any justice in the world, would be tried in a Nuremberg-style court for crimes against humanity- walks the streets, is dined and wined and interviewed for a pack of disingenuous trash that some hack ghost writer penned for him, and he himself most likely cannot read, accepts an apology from a fool, who as another commentator aptly put it “got one thing right in his life”. Talk about fiddling while Rome is burning. It is really sad. Is it any wonder that the lemmings (read teabaggers and other pathetically foolish throngs) are goose-stepping another master deceiver (read Rupert Murdoch, et al.) to the abyss. This is apocalypse with a whimper.

Kanye said he misspoke?  He did when he recanted.

Isn’t this all a big theatrical show with Matt as the peacemaker…. what a crock.

NONE of these people speak nor represent me… not even close.

What a nauseating farce.

Why does a president of the United States, in the middle of one of the worst disasters in American history, fly into high dudgeon and hold a grudge for years for what a second rate rap singer with a big mouth had to say about him?

Why is this the “low point in his presidency” rather than the death of thousands, the destruction and displacement of millions of lives, and America’s reputation dragged through the sewer due to his stupidity, incompetence, and arrogance?  Well, if you’re a pathological narcissist, it makes perfect sense.

Bush forgives Kanye West for “insulting” him?

Sickening.
