Bill Maher Takes On That Anti-Obama Filmmaker

Author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza appeared on “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday to defend his depiction of the president in his new film “2016: Obama’s America.” But item by item, Maher dismantled D’Souza’s flimsy claims about Obama’s pre-political past and his performance in the White House.

In a feat of newspeak that would make the trickiest of Soviet-era propagandists blush, the slippery D’Souza cast Obama as a stonewalling anti-capitalist bent on fulfilling the anti-American ambitions of his Kenyan father, whom the president met once.

“I believe that Obama is anti-capitalist, yes,” D’Souza told Maher.

“But there’s no evidence for that,” Maher replied.

D’Souza: “Yes there is.”

Maher: “What is that?”

D’Souza: “Well the evidence is that ... ”

Maher: “He saved the banks?”

D’Souza: “No, no, no. Let’s put it my way.”

Maher: “He appointed [liberal historian and political critic] Noam Chomsky secretary of the Treasury?”

D’Souza walked into a similar anti-baloney firestorm when he appeared on Cenk Uygur’s “The Young Turks” in mid-August.
