Betty White’s Senior AppealPosted on May 9, 2010
She’s old, she’s feisty, and this golden girl just delivered “Saturday Night Live” its best ratings since Tina Fey dressed up as Sarah Palin. White is a one-woman argument against retirement. Betty White, the performer/actor/dancer/comedienne, is simply sublime.
But when the spotlight is turned off it’s my hunch she is a picky perfectionist, a frustratingly demanding authoritarian and essentially a miserable person to be around.
I don’t know why my intuition tells me this except that in a very few glimpses I’ve seen when a candid-type camera has caught her “out of character” her star-bright smiling personna was no where to be found. Her face “turns off” and transforms into something hard and definately unfriendly. She looked as if she would bite your head off if you crossed her.
I hope I’m dead wrong. I hope that to expect her or anyone to be a “Betty White” all the time is unrealistic and unfair. It’s just that the change is SO dramatic… from shining star to glowering threat. Chameleons unnerve me.

The hamster dance? WTH?
Ah, are you smoking something illegal?
Is that off of something or did you make it up?

Talk about debbie downers! SNL is a shadow of its former self but I’m glad to see Betty White getting props. Going seamlessly from Sue Ann Nivens on Mary Tyler Moore to Rose Nylun on Golden Girls takes a very gifted actor.

No more lame than any other SNL made since the late 70s.

SNL continues its septic-system slide with the geriactric jive from Betty White, the Strom Thurmond of lamestream television.
