“60 Minutes” has waded into the highly politicized wake of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and determined that the administration did not adequately protect or support its personnel in Libya.

The piece hangs largely on an interview with a former British soldier who goes by the pseudonym Morgan Jones and has co-written a new book. Jones, we are told, was tasked with organizing a defense of the consulate in Benghazi and, he says, he wanted a better security force but was never delivered one. Others speaking to the network news show say the military sent no assistance and the whole thing generally plays to the Republicans in Congress who have refused to let go of this bone.

Some questions not covered in the above piece: Why were U.S. diplomatic personnel even in Libya in the midst of a civil war in which the U.S. was involved? What is a “CIA Annex” and what is the nature of the assault team based there? If you were genuinely worried about the safety of the American ambassador and consulate staff, and no one higher up would listen to your concerns, did you consider going public?
