Equine enthusiast and budding politician Dale Peterson’s unintentionally hilarious campaign ad, in which he and his horse make their case for why he should become Alabama’s next agriculture commissioner, hardly requires any embellishment to be soundly parodied, but this spot-on “Funny or Die” spoof does a rip-snortin’ job of it all the same. (Bonus: Peterson’s original commercial is also featured below for hours of frame-by-frame comparison fun!)  —KA

New and Improved Comments

We are launching a major overhaul of our comments section.

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread.

Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts.

Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.

Please direct any problems or concerns to us via our contact page.

No wonder the zombies are out to get Truthdig!  This from Alabama—and we have yet to look forward to Kentucky, Utah, West Virginia and Idaho!  Then there’s Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma—and Tennessee.
Cornpone, backstrap, chitlins and pork rind. I’m not prejudiced or anything—but it’s enough to make anybody want to secede, ain’t it?

Note to readers: We are currently recovering from what
we believe was an attack on the site. We were down for
over an hour. In restoring the site, we appear to have
lost a number of comments. We deeply regret this. We
appreciate the time and thought you put into your
comments and we will do our best to retrieve them if
possible.

With all the grief that the Rethugs are getting, they let this guy make this? Wow.
