Ahmadinejad Narrowly Misses Shoe Attack in CairoPosted on Feb 5, 2013
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Egypt took a turn for the diplomatically dicey in Cairo on Tuesday when an angry man who apparently hailed from Syria chose to express his displeasure with Ahmadinejad’s support of the Syrian regime by lobbing a shoe at the Iranian leader. According to The New York Times, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency caught the incident on video and reported that the Syrian assailant shouted, “You killed our brothers!” as he aimed for Ahmadinejad with his shoe, which wound up hitting his target’s bodyguards instead. The man was subsequently arrested at the scene, Cairo’s al-Hussein mosque. The tussle, although somewhat confusing, was captured in the video below: YouTube: —Posted by Kasia Anderson.
