Hey, guess what? Politicians don’t always make good on their campaign pledges—and Barack Obama is no exception, unfortunately. Although the president challenged his critics Tuesday on the subject of his campaign pledges about health care compared to the current version of reform legislation taking shape in Congress, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee begs to differ in its newly released media spot.

“What part of the ‘mess bush made’ has Obama fixed?”

Unfortunately Obama is a fixer, not a progressive politician,—nor the man
who campaigned as “the People’s Choice” and got my vote…

“Close Gitmo in a year? Good words, Gitmo goes on.”

Obama probably owns KBR stock and couldn’t afford that expensive vacation
hideaway place in Hawaii without the dividend income it produces…

“Stop torture ( as a state approved technique) Goes on and now we have an add
on—the concept of moving of individuals into that grey zone of nonpersonehood
at the will of the president.”

Barry-O doesn’t care about poor peasant people unless they are Mexican
middle-tier crime lords who sneak across the border to infest the barrio and
kill the children of blacks and whites…(he doesn’t like his black self or
his white self)...

“Gifting billions to the banks because that will result in “more bang for the
buck”? Isn’t that what got this mess going—banks trying to magnify their
bang?”

600 million from the campaign coffers of the banks and medical lobby during
the convention shake down buys a lot of deregulation and turning the eye the
other way during what should have been periods of deep introspection…

“The topper is his Nobel Prize. For saying the word ‘Peace’? In accepting the
prize he praised WAR!”

Every popular song for the white diaper babies who are “keep(‘in)ittrue” goes
a long way to making sure that America stays under the heel of state.  These
kids are the kids of Yuppie turncoats who fled the progressives at the first
sign of combative anxiety while talkin’ coward trash….

Obama is the tool of power and does nothing for us “useless eaters” who are
just too damn decent to scrabble to the top leaving bodies in their wake as
does a Barack Obama or a Bernie Madoff.  The meek do not inherit the Earth
and Barry-O and Bernie-M know that.

bush would have done the same and looked/sounded like a total idiot. Obama, however, covered himself with the tapestry of a great military power with uncontested might—-so if Obama calls it a “good war” by golly gee it must be Peace.

Some hoped, and many feared, that as president Obama would be another FDR. He turned out to be another Herbert Hoover. The ‘change’ he represents is skin deep.

apolloguide Like I said. Venom spewing liar who will believe everything they say on Fox News on republican lying radio programs. Bush/Cheney lied so much that no president will ever come even close to their total. As long as President Obama works to improve our country and fix the mess Bush made of everything, Obama will be the best President in history. He and I will fight against the hate, venom and vomit from maggots like you, Rush, Beck, Coulter, O’Reilly, etc.

Keepittrue:  KEEP IT REAL and wake up from the Barry-
O dreamspace.  You must be so young as to not
understand the way a democracy such as this one that
we have in the US operates.  The president leads, he
does not follow partisan hacks from either side…
Except for this one, who has accomplished nothing of
substance but extend the time to buy digital hd boxes
before switching over transmission protocols.  But of
course he did this again not for the long suffering
American people but rather for the far eastern
electronic toy cartel so he could help them soak the
American consumer for hundreds of dollars for useless
electronic junk.

we have a media that is supposed to speak for the people, but speaks for corporate and special interests. We have a government of straw men,bag men for the interests that funded them. Nowhere do we have organized resistance, unions, guilds have been defanged. We are moving into a form of Corporate Feudalism that will result in the people of this country being reduced to cannon fodder for corporate and special interests concerns.

Guess what, we know politicians lie and break promises, but does that mean people should be silent and accepting about this behavior particularly when it means additional wealth transfer from regular citizens to industries who have been ripping them off with impunity…. what is the point of stating the obvious as if it is somehow grown-up observation.  I was hoping he was overstating rather than understating his commitment to escalation in Afghanistan, but instead he bait and switched on health care, financial reform, Main St not Wall St, etc. and takes the peace prize by justifying war… another chicken-hawk with no skin in the game.

Hey, guys.  What is a campaign “promise” anyway?

It’s a candidate saying, “I will do the best I can to ... ” (fill in the promise).  No
candidate can do better than that.  The Congress legislates and the Supremes
adjudicate.

If you believe that the Presidential candidate’s pledge is sincere ... to do his
best to deliver ... and if you believe he has done his best and continues to do
so, he has delivered.

Grow up Americans!  Stop playing politics.

This is the best President we’ll see in our lifetimes.  Give him a little support!

Some of you on this site are snarling vipers who have not cared to follow the health care debate. You are not aware that it was necessary to get cooperation from a lot of people who did not all want health care reform. Senator Landrieu was against the Public Option and probably President Obama himself. Then you had Lieberman against anything that would benefit people and work to keep health care profits in check. So no Public Option and No Medicare Buy-In. These vomitous conservatives made sure that this bill is as it is. President Obama says he will now be very involved in the further negiotiations between the House and Senate bills. Hopefully we will see improvements to what the Senate put forth. The last thing we need is to have republicans take back over the Senate with their determination for the President to fail.

President Obama is more truthful than a lot of the presidents we have had. Bush was not belittled because he didn’t keep even one of his campaign pledges. Bush was just in the whitehouse and that was it,no criticism. President Obama has to deal with very conservative republican democrats in the Senate. They are the same as republicans with their ties to health care lobbyists. He is not a miracle worker and is doing so many things that are very wonderful so far. I trust President Obama and I believe he has the good of the country always in his mind.

Barry, as he likes to call himself, is a stone cold
punk who lies 10 times before breakfast.  I pity his
poor children and his embarrassed and visibly suffering
wife.  He is outdoing Tiger Woods in his subterfuge,
lying, and duplicity in his “on-bended knee”
subservience to power.  He is not worth another thought
by any caring world citizen.  He is nothing more than
the black Clinton.  So we get coal in our stockings for
Christmas.  These are dark days indeed.

The “yeshestillcan” group….he always COULD but he WONT…Si se peude tranlates to “yes it is achievable” , not “yes we will”...mrfreeze, you sure are obsessed with the npr interview—i heard it.You Dems need to start thinking what you will do to get people out in 2010, not scolding people who were lied to like small children…even I thought Obaam would do better than this.

This article is very honest about it..http://www.progressive.org/wx122309.html

gerard—Unfortunately, there is not “american community” everyone thinks theat they are too “free” for that..lol..most people who are comfortable here, just SAY “we are all in this together”, but, as long as they are comfortable , they dont give a damn…I figured that out when I lived overseas…the difference in emphasis on money, taxes, greed, selfishness, is startling.

Obama cannot be nailed to things, because of the way he structures his speeches….as in “It is horrible that 50 million Americans dont have health care” (everyone cheers) He doesnt say that he will do anything about it, or, if he does, he is very non-specific…and he wont…“we need to bail out main st not wall st” but he doesnt..and, he really never promised to. But that doestn mean he shouldnt be held accountable for playing word games, although some of us saw them from day one. Its not very smart of him to wag his finger inthe face of former supporters..

We dont need a “public option”” we need universal care…his crack about “everyone mandated to buy a house” was crude and sickening, gi ven the state of foreclosures. Obam couldve put a freeze on interest rates and/or foreclosures , from day one, by executive order…he couldve passed heaztlh care (with Congress) instead of the useless Stimulus, full of tax cuts..we dont have any reveneue in this country, everyone is so tax-phobic!

T.A.

Candidate Obama ridiculed mandates, he didn’t just say they were a
bad idea. He pointed out that it was the difference between Hillary
Clinton’s approach and his own.

Here’s a link to Obama promising a public option.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/12/22/203321/14?new=true

Just because I tell you war is bad today, doesn’t mean that I’ve just
begun to say war is bad. And we can play children’s games about
crossing fingers behind backs or having shoelaces tied, but when a
candidate lays out what he will do in office, that’s a promise, and you’re
post is 0 for 2.

he said “must contain public option” in July - of this year.  not exactly a campaign promise.  he said mandates were a bad idea, not “i promise no mandates”.

so this ad is 0-fer-2.  what’s gonna be strike 3? he promised to raise the dead?

It seems to be that this video is simply a promotion piece not for pubic health care but for private enterprise with its eternal myth of “competition.”

Pubic health is a public need.  Everyone needs basic adequate coverage so that if and when they need help they will be guaranteed to get adequate care. Only a few at any one time will need it, relative to the huge number of people who will not be using it.  It should work like Medicare for all, and a government as rich (with tax money) could pay for it without strain (especially if we quit fighting wars!) It’s done in most modern democratic countries and works pretty well—has been on the books for years.

The market is an economic crap-shoot where some people profit from other peoples’ loss.  Health care demands a community spirit of all for one and one for all, a fairly shared responsibility for mutual benefit, no winners and no losers.  Americans are confused, having been brainwashed by “private enterprise” propaganda and “individualism” as the overpowering virtue of all time.  Nonsense. We are all in this together, the American community. Nobody should have to “compete” for health care.  And no doctors should be in the business of competing for giving people aid when they are sick.
