Democracy Now!

Thousands are still struggling in Paul Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, Wis., after General Motors shut down its century-old plant there in 2008. What economic recovery has occurred there is due largely to the federal stimulus programs so loathed by Republicans.

“Democracy Now!” speaks to Brad Lichtenstein, director of the new documentary, “As Goes Janesville.” The film follows the town’s attempts to survive the recession while pro-business forces, including Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and bankers, attack any attempt to provide financial relief to Janesville’s residents by federal means.
