The caucuses have a lot of us fizzy-water-drinking cognoscenti chortling about those backward Iowans with their reactionary conservatives and simpleton farmers. This guy would like to set the record straight.

Um apart from a few exaggerations, false assumption, egregious assertions.. not that bad if one is talking to a simpleton.

Sorry sir but the computer was invented in England.
Perhaps he was talking about the first PC ...which was as useful as a cup full of Iowan tea bagger brain..

7 football fields! Whoopee Some farms in Australia are almost the size of Des Moines larger suburbs and some ranches almost the size of Texas That doesn’t mean the operator is necessarily a good person nor does it mean they are competent or that their judgements are good or even intelligent.

Tough job? no tougher than a squillion others! Coal mining, Police officer in the Bronx, parts of Cleveland, LA, Detroit etc.

BTW not all US food comes from Iowa. I think other states have some input too.

If we’re gonna be accurate perhaps he should focus an the real criticism i.e. it’s the far right Republican/ bible bashing numb nuts that support the hypocritical and morally backward policies that’s the problem.  And yes, they don’t have a lock on all them either.

So in truth Iowa is the same as any other state in that it has some good and some bad individuals.

IMO it is this sort of stereotyping of both Iowa and non Iowans that is part of the race to the bottom for this country.

Howcum no one’s aiming their hatred toward the CBS/NBC/ABC/
CNN/Faux network?  How many days did it take before they’d emptied
out all our brains on the 4% vote in Iowa?  That’s worth screaming at,
all you braves launching insults in cyberspace from the left of the fridge
and the right of the couch.  The problem isn’t Iowa, braves, the problem
is duh News.  Stop watching the majors, start reading.

OK Mr. Iowa Dude.  You’re a hardass, and are pissed off that the world doesn’t
know how awesome you state is.  We might wake up a bit more to that if you
didn’t come across as a total resentful asshole who doesn’t think anyone from
outside of your shitty state has any idea of how totally cool and badass you are.
Seriously, back off a bit…the facts are good, the attitude really off-putting.

I have actually been to Iowa. It’s very very flat. I loved the video dissing on
the Californians and New Yorkers who think they are the only people in the
country. And for those of you who think Iowa almost let Santorum win it
was only 4 percent of Iowans who participated in this caucus stuff and they
are usually to the right of right.

Disclosure. I am live in California and was raised in New York.

The only talk about Iowa I ever heard or read was Bill Bryson, who’s from there, that there should be a sign at the state line saying:

Welcome to Iowa, this is what death is like.

Ludicrous if he thinks he represents the republicans in Iowa. In any event Iowa does make the south and lower midwest look sane. There is where the real hee haw extras are.

Let’s catch our friend LaFayette here before he falls flat on his face:

”—- crassness should not be allowed in political campaigns ...” (regardless of Free Speech Amendment)

“...Which is how and why we elect incompetents like the T-Party (T for Troglodyte) into Congress.”

Maybe if it’s more than one syllable it’s not crass?
(P.S.  Or could it just be a matter of “taste” (whatever that is!) about which there are no “laws governing”—nor could there be, practically speaking.  Reminds me of that Dutch cartoon of perilous memory.)

I live in New York City, and I don’t know anyone who sits around disparaging Iowa.  But I don’t watch TV; maybe it’s some kind of mass media thing?

I was hoping air quotes were finally going out of style, even as ironic parody.  But as they have showed up recently in Doonesbury as well as Iowa, I guess, sadly, not.

GREAT!! I was JUST noticing the NY Times article delineating how many votes each psycho-candidate among the repugnicants got. The total? About 123,000.

There are 3 MILLION Iowans. (Of course, not all voting age, but you get the gist that the repugnicant primary is 4% of the population.) Which led me to think—gee. I bet there’s at LEAST 300,000 progressive Iowans—and likewise in MANY states, who would vote for a really PROGRESSIVE alternative to the mess of backbiting crypto-fascist repugnican thugs and the civil-liberties stripping hollow suit for the coprotocracy and banksters, Barack Obama. (Yes COPRO tocracy—has that frothy Santorum smell.)

Shall we try for real democracy? Or wake up to the fact that the choices arrayed before us are a fucking joke?

maybe goddevil had changed its mind and is begining to
devolve us back into apes? apes, especially the gorillas, are
very good people, they also have very good leaders, who not
only lead, but are also lead! and the devolvement would be
very good for bears also!
on the other hand, ants do not give a hoot about ‘progress’
or regression. they still live as their ancestors had millions
of years ago.
so, there we are—we got s’mthing to be cheerful about. tnx

Who could be better at governing a collapsing US than these Republicans?  Remember George W. Bush anyone?  He did more damage to the imperial/corporate system than any of us Occupy types could ever have even imagined.
Please, Iowa, may we have some more!

Extremism & prejudices are in a person’s state of mind; not an assignment to a state.

Yes and no.

It is indeed a “state of mind”, but we have in America confused the notion of Freedom of Speech. Hate is not included and yet we allow defamation and character assassination by means of media advertisements funded by sectarian groups with a deranged political purpose.

In most civilized nations (where I have lived in Europe) such calumny is punishable by law. Which means what?

It means that candidates stay confined to “issues” of political merit and not “personality”. Crassness should not be allowed in political campaigns because they take the focus off other matters far more germane to a candidate’s political platform - which should be, as voters, are principal focus.

Which is how and why we elect incompetents like the T-Party (T for Troglodyte) into Congress. Defamation engenders voter apathy as many citizens feel justified in relinquishing their Public Duty (to vote) to a minority of our electorate.

Regardless of the fact that we should have the good sense to take any publicity with a grain of salt - so ingrained is it with a manipulative intent, either commercial or political.

A fuck you to Iowa. I’ve been to and through nearly every state in the union and the only one where I nearly had a scene from easy rider played out for real was fucking Iowa (all because of my “defeat Bush” bumper sticker). Now, I know it could have happened anywhere, but Iowa is also the place that is putting Rick fucking freedom fries bomb Iran Santorum on the map. Seriously, this guy is scarier than Perry or Bachmann because he has something resembling a brain. This guy is as close to evil as it gets. Iowa cocks I mean caucuses killed Dean, gave us Obama and well, fuck you Iowa.

I grew up in Iowa.  Caucused for Eugene McCarthy in
1968. Got maced at an anti war rally in Iowa City. Went
to SDS meetings. Learned to be an anarchist.
Real family farms existed in those days and you could
drink water out of farm wells uncontaminated by
fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. It seemed
saner then but so did the whole country.

Extremism & prejudices are in a person’s state of mind; not an assignment to a state. I’ve seen prejudices in all states and 5 foreign countries in which I was assigned while in the military.
How we interact with others is an outward expression of what we think of our self.
It’s sad to see a person to start a video as such but his attitude is understandable. He’s defensive but most people are when attacked.
NOT ALL think of Iowans as described, maybe a few who are insecure about how they lived their lives.
Personally, I’d like to visit Iowa!
